Hi,

A couple days ago my odometer started acting strange, working at some points, not working at others.

I am wondering if it is loose, but I cant figure out where it is to check.

What does the cable look like, how does it connect, is it easy to put back in if it is loose?

thanks all

Pull the cable out of the tranny and lube the cable. When the cable is out, look at the end that goes into the back of the speedo, it should be square and about 2" long. If its not, the cable is broken.

The other thing that could be wrong is the driven gear inside the tranny. The gear is nylon and wears out against the drive gear. This is what happened to mine. The driven gear costs about $20 through Cdan.

Check the archives, I think there was a article about opening up the speedo and cleaning/lubing the crud out of the little number wheels on the odo.

where is the cable?

So where exactly is the cable, what does it look like,,,any visual references you can give to help me find would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

You can access the cable by removing the gauge cluster. Simple remove the screws holding the gauge cluster in place. On the back of the guages you can then unplug the connectors the one behind the speedo is the cable you are looking for.

gauge cluster?

I am not in front of my cruiser right now, but where is the gauge cluster located. Obviously its on the drivers side, but where exactly?

thanks again for this silly newbie and his questions
