My odometer seems to be stuck as the tenths will move but it won't move the rest of the numbers. I've read a lot of threads with suggestions on how to clean it but a lot of ppl also really screwed it up. Anyone had success with this? Tips?

Mine is the same way.

Are there certain cleaning/lube products you would recommend? Any particular method that is better than another? Remember I'm a newbie. :)

Maybe we should have a cleaning party at my place-haha!

I bought some white lithium grease today for the odometer based in the guy at the store telling me its safe for plastic. Been reading a lot and apparently there are differing opinions on this. Can I use this grease or is it gonna melt my odometer? :)

The huz said it best when reassuring me yesterday...ain't nothing you can't fix or replace on that 40 yourself. Don't let that odometer kick your butt: D (and if it does, come to the forum and panic like I did)

Haha-I'm not as worried about actually doing it as I am about putting grease on it that is going to melt the plastic! I keep finding contradictory stuff on which grease to use! :bang: Saw your post-glad it wasn't anything awful!

Alright I decided to tackle this today and am not stuck and my odometer seems I have an extra little metal piece that will NOT come off so I can't remove any of the other parts to clean. It's the brass looking piece in the pic. How the heck do I get this thing off!!!!

So what's your saying is I can send it to you and you'll send it back all nice and new? :)

I've never had one apart, but from the pic it looks to be pressed on. Put the whole thing in the freezer for a while, then hit the brass w/ a soldering iron right after pulling it out???? Just a stab in the dark here, but that's probably how I'd go about it.

GL,
 R

Wow. Good thinking...

Change it back to 00000.0 miles before reinstalling it... Haha

Mmmmm don't have one of those.

Not sure what you have tried but some light weight oil or pb blaster carefully applied (with a q-tip) and a vice grip just snug enough to grab the bras piece?

Not sure if there are risks with the oil and the plastic, but I'd give that a try if it were mine, only if the big assed hammer failed me first.
