if you want to bail, go ahead.I won't be hurt at all. I thought Ali wanted to do expedition, but I've not heard from him. I'll send him a direct line.

We're still planning on attedning - I **may** be starting an eight month deployment the 1st of Oct, so if I get snatched up for that Moab and anything cruiser related will be a no-go until the summer for me.

Ali is probably not going. It would only be me and you David. what do you think?

You drive stuff around. How could that require an 8-month deployment?

Any thoughts on where? I haven't looked into it, but I'd like to do something at least a little challenging. Otherwise, if I don't change my plane ticket, I can go to moab and combine the wheeling with some mountain biking since I don't get to do that with the fam.

let's do that. since it would only be 2 of us, we can at least be with the main group. Jill will rent a car for a day or 2 and do stuff with other ladies that don't want to wheel. she said she would like to do a river raft float and arches.

copy--I'll either wheel/bike Moab or go gocart racing and play with a sawmill in GA heat....

I haven't been around much lately, but I ran into Mike (Beowulf) today and he mentioned the Moab trip coming up. I'm going to be there with a couple of Toyota guys from VA & NC Oct 3 - 9. We're just doing the day trips, no expeditions, and camping at Portal (Portal RV Resort, Moab Utah). This is a great place to stay if anyone still needs to make plans. They have pretty nice facilities - showers, big pavillion for group dinners, fenced-in areas for dogs, etc. so you're not exactly roughing it.

They have indidual camp sites that are a little pricey ($21 per night), but the group sites are a good deal. I think it's $21/night for the first 2 people and then $8/night for every person after that.

I just have 2 individual sites reserved right now, but if anyone else is interested in staying at Portal, I'll reserve a group site for us. Just let me know...

We're planning on driving up the 7th and back the 11th, so I'm not sure on how a group thing at Portal would work. Do they have internet access? At least one of us needs it, and I would to find some tranks if we didn't have it. G, bring your rx pad. JK.

What's everybody thinking on where to stay? On runs, there are enough to do an easy and a hard run every day I think, with some people even alternating between easy/hard on different days depending on difficulty. I'd like to do some different runs than we've tried before.

Since we won't be at the meeting Saturday I guess we don't get a vote on which runs we do, but I'm really up for whatever, even if they're repeats. After all, it's MOAB!!!

anyone tenting it? if we have people in tents, we should think of wind protection for them. we broke our tent that one year in the wind. if nobody is in a tent, then it opens up a little more.

having a hard and easier run each day would be ideal if there's enough interest on both sides. I still have not been on Cliff Hanger. I would love to get some rigs on Pritchett. we can even start it, leaving a rig at the trail head for the option to turn around(the opener is one of the hardest obstacles IMHO).

I tried to get a cabin at Canyonlands, but they were all booked up. I went with a room at the sandstone Inn next to canyonlands.

As for the runs.. im down for new stuff, but like Steve, it dosent matter - its Moab. Cliffhanger beat my rig up at CM10 but would do it again, not sure I want to take it on Prichett.

pritchett is a bad idea for the 70. it's for 35" tires and bigger only. and good armor. the tail of an 80 will drag hard in a couple spots and the long wheelbase will help in a few spots.

At this point I'm back to 50% chance. Got some friends who may want to meet us in ABQ for the Balloon Fiesta.

Moab Talk: Anybody see that some of the trails were damaged. I heard Flint, White Rim, and Elephant Hill trails took some recent big damage from washouts.

White Rim Trail washout closes Mineral Bottom switchbacks |

I wonder if any of our current plans will be hindered.

Portal has free wireless for people staying there. It's not super fast, but it works. Also, all 4 group sites are still available as of yesterday. You can easily squeeze 8-10 tents on one of those sites.

As for how the group thing works, each adult would pay $8 per night only for the nights that they stay there. Our Isuzu group has used this place every year for the past 15 years and it's a great staging area for organizing day trips. We've been known to turn the pavillion into a service garage for repairs once in a while too. The manager there is pretty cool with whatever as long as we don't keep people awake late at night.

Hey guys,

We just got internet access on the road, finally! We're on a four week road trip through WY, MT, CA, NV, AZ and not sure when we'll return back home. In any case, I stayed non committal in case a job prospect came up (yeah right!) but count me out anyway. If we're not too burned out from camping and being on the road, we'll try to make it.

We just left Yellowstone and on our way to Great Falls, MT.

Later.

I will be tent camping and plan to bring my dog, Rusty. If we pick a trail that doesn't allow dogs then I'll kennel him or keep him hidden inside the truck ;-)

I'll be able to provide a mobile hot-spot for up to 5 connections. Speed is 3G; not blazing fast but decent.

Markh already has reservations in Slickrock (next door to Portal isn't it?). can we agree on that one? no cottonwood flying around and good tent wind protection.
