I don't know the torque specs for the front sensor. I was pretty careful, since it is threaded in to the exhaust. Maybe 35 ft/lbs.

On another note, my CEL light did come back on after I replaced the 2 sensors!! Does anyone know how to get this off? I had the battery disconnected for quite a while, and pressed the brake a few times. It was off after I reconnected the battery, but came on again after about a day. Any ideas?

Yeah, I know, but no Autozones around and the dealer sticks me with $75 for the read. sh%*! Didn't want to bite the $120 for a decent reader either. Oh well. If it comes up with the same code for O2 sensor, bank 2 sensor 1, I'm pissed.

I just replaced mine. That drivers side is a PITA. I got the passenger side off in 10 minutes. (front sensors).

cleared CEL, so far so good.

thanks for the tips fjinva, sorry to hear your light came back on. Did you replace both front ones? Maybe the Bank 1 front sensor is bad as well.

I replaced both Bank 2 sensors, front and rear. The secret to the front passenger one is to get that tire off first! I don't really want to go after the driver side front one right now. Too many other cruiser projects to take care of!!

The original code was for the Bank 2, front sensor. Code P0155. I'll have to see what it's reading now. Sounds like my 100 is heading for the same issues with O2 sensor codes as the 80 series. Too bad for me.

well, if you ever do the front ones, go from underneath to get to it. If you take off the skid plate, its pretty easy to get to.

Im skinny enough to wiggle inside the passenger wheel, helped to turn it to the left.

Where exactly is "bank 2 sensor 1" located? You can't order them from Toyota like that.

That's a good price on the sensors. Cdan can get them for $103 and I already have an oder I'm working up for him. I still don't know what if bank 2 translates into front/rear or left/right.

Hey everyone. According to the FSM, Bank 1 is the bank that includes cylinder #1 <- that is universal for all cars...so a 4-cylinder or straight 6 will only throw a bank 1 code. Sensor number indicates upstream (close to manifold) or downstream (after cat). Therefore, Bank 1 sensor 1 indicates the O2 sensor closest to the manifold in the exhaust pipe connected to cylinder 1. Consequently, Bank 1 in the LC/LX is on the driver side. Bank 2 is passenger.

BTW, I picked up an Actron 9125 ODBII reader for $59 from Pep-Boys...had a $20 rebate but at $79 you won't find it cheaper on eBay. Beats having to go to Autozone. It's a simple reader that reads and clears codes...won't perform analysis like the $200 ones. Although I'm not sure the analysis features would work with the LC/LX. If/when a CEL comes on I usually record the code and clear it and wait for it to come back on before I act on it...just to make sure. Of course everyone should know that if the CEL comes on and blinks, pull over and stop the engine immediately...that is bad.

Hope this helps.

Generally,
Bank 1=side of the engine where #1 cylinder is
Bank 2=obviously is the opposite side
Sensor 1=pre cat
Sensor 2= post cat

Just for clarification, bank 1 is on the drivers side and bank 2 is on the passenger side.

My CEL light stayed on after i replaced the 4th ignition coil. Got it code checked (free @ a local 76 gas station repair shop) and the tech said it was the up-stream o2 sensors. I see that one lucky person got to hit 200k befor having to replace the sensors. Guess i come in second at just about 140k :D

Good thread! I went to Autozone and the code from CEL ended up being a P0155. I went to Denso site and paid $91.73 for the front sensor and $8.54 shipping for a total of $100.27.

Thanks to all that contributed to this thread.

I got the same bank2 sensor1 code as mentioned in here.. which part is the one needed on the denso site?

Super Class OE identical O2 sensor 234-4169 234-4169 FRONT; 2 sensors; $91.73

Super Class OE identical O2 sensor 234-4161 234-4161 REAR; 2 sensors; $93.21

I am guessing it is Front meaning pre-cat and bank2 on the pass side. Is that right?
