I had this setup and it was good for 20 years though I struggled to climb the mountain passes in Colorado, especially with a camper in tow. The split between 3rd and 4th was too wide for my preference and I could never climb the mountain passes out of 3rd, which was around 40-45 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. Semis would pass me.I love my sm465 4:11 37’s. I want less gear changing not more haha. Drove from Vancouver Canada to Pismo Beach Cali. Cruised the I-5 just fine for me. Not sure if it would be worth the expense to swap to that tranny. How would it compare to an h55f with split case. That might be another option if ya want a 5sd.
BTW, this is a sweet looking Cruiser. I love your lights on the fenders.Has anybody run an NV3500 with a 5.7 350 and the 1968 40 series t-case?
I can't seem to find any NV4500 transmissions under $1000 anymore and I can't acquire the amount they seem to be going for in my area. 3k and up.
I can find an NV3500 every once in a while for around $600 but I don't know how well they hold up to V8 power and torque, especially in 4x4. I'm not rock crawling or anything but I will put it through more than normal stresses.
At the moment I have an SM465 with AA kit to the t-case.
Thanks

My main goal is to have a strong reliable machine that I feel comfortable driving to anywhere I want.
I'm not a rock crawler but it will see some difficulties.
I guess going 55 mph without the engine doing 5500 rpmWhat are you looking to accomplish by moving away from the SM465?

I think they are 5.29 and 33 inch tires. Are those numbers accurate?
Assuming you have stock 4.11 axle gears and 31” tires, 5500 RPM would be 123mph.
2500RPM would be 55mph.
3000RPM would be 67mph.
I think I’d just bolt in some good used 3.70 third members.

I also don’t think my Tach worked very well. It was a piece of junk and it worked for like two weeks. lolI think they are 5.29 and 33 inch tires.
Other than that I’m just telling you what the tachometer said when I’m doing 55.
Calculator says with those parts and 5500rpm is still 100mph. 5500rpm is a LOT. I would first verify your RPM for sure and your axle ratios for sure.I think they are 5.29 and 33 inch tires.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s in high, but I still think my tack is wrong because it’s now broken anyway.Calculator says with those parts and 5500rpm is still 100mph. 5500rpm is a LOT. I would first verify your RPM for sure and your axle ratios for sure.
stock 4.11 axle gears, 33" tires should have no trouble going highway speed at reasonable RPM without overdrive.
Dumb question: are you sure your transfer case is in high-range?
Haha I couldn’t climb our high mountain passes pulling my boat either. Ever watch that show highway thru hell Im about 90 mins away from the Coquihalla highway and drive it quite often. Even with no trailer it my crusier struggled. ,,I had this setup and it was good for 20 years though I struggled to climb the mountain passes in Colorado, especially with a camper in tow.
