Well, we're back and still cleaning up. Some reason my cruise control decided not to work on the way back, working now, but should have pulled over and see if it reset. Sorry Clint for the erratic speed changes.
So our part of the trip didn't work out as planned either, as Nalu decided to take a romp through the neighborhood at about 1pm on Friday as we were packed and ready to go. The Park ranger was not flexible in the opening of the gate, so we had to leave on Saturday morning. After a long drive and multiple long walks back and forth to campsite with gear we finally set up camp. Beautiful scenery looking out over the lake at Linville Gorge and Table Rock.
Facilities were great, but the loading of gear put a damper on things. Gates close at 6pm, so seeing the lights was a no-go. But we had a trip up to Table Rock like last year, but both Clint and Lily fell asleep on the way up, so Clint and I turned around and headed back. Menu: Fried turkey, campfire baked potatoes, corn, Jon's family secret green bean casserole, cranberry, stuffin' muffins, and beer...
Jon headed back, Clint and I headed up to Brown Mountain for some light wheeling and refreshments on the bald of Brown Mountain. Some spots were actually weathered enough to provide a nice crawling experience. However this is the second time I've been up there and one of those motorcyclists or ATV'ers are going to get themselves hurt going around the corners at the speed they do, not expecting a 5000lb truck being there!
Short stop at McDonalds for some grub and we headed home.
Great facility if you don't have a lot of gear. Although, you could probably boat everything in and have a shorter walk!
Glad to hang out with everyone again!
