If the gate closes at 6pm, can we come and go? Sounds like we might have trouble viewing the Brown Mountain lights if we're locked in. :frown:

Yeah, I'm thinking the only way around that is to park some vehicles on the outside of the gate and carpool...

NM i'm going to try and make it.

I'm just about ready to default on all my bills and run away to Venezuela.

I hear there are some nice cruisers down that way.

Brian, I intend to leave Raleigh by 10AM Friday, which would put me at the campground before 2PM. If no-one is there, no worries - I'll get set up and take a walk/hike with Jacob. I'll look forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

Saturday: Early dinner (eating at 5), Keefers will be frying a turkey and some other "Thanksgiving" fare. Feel free to bring a side/dessert if you want, but we've got the turkey, potatoes, corn, and stuffin' muffins. Brown Mountain Lights at dark, back by 8, adult beverages will be consumed.
BK

I will be bringing some baked beans (nothing special) and some brownies for Saturday dinner.

Stacy is out for the trip, so it looks like it will only be Clint and me.

Man we're dropping like flies!

So far it's The Keefers, The Mabes, The Clints, and Joe.

Brett and Al are out...

I think we're leaving mid day tomorrow also. Heather has to put in a half day, and I had to work today, so we couldn't leave today..

Crap...we might not be able to leave until Saturday. But we are still coming...just depends on what time steph gets off of work.

We'll be looking out for ya. If we don't see you tonight, we'll hang around camp for you on Saturday. Since it's a small group, we should be a little more efficient in getting ready and doing the activities.

And since I haven't called you Jon, Yes, that was us going into Blowing Rock the weekend before Halloween! Did you honk at me?\

We should be heading out in the next hour or so...

Unfortunately this event just did not work out for me and I ended up coming home Saturday evening.

Brian and Heather found a wonderful campsite overlooking Lake James and out towards Linville Gorge. The weather was absolutely perfect, I don't know who they worked with on that but it couldn't be any better.

Unfortunately Jacob was far too amped up and nervous and we got exactly 0 minutes of sleep Friday night. He was also too infatuated with Lily and Li'l Clint and his behavior was startling and disappointing.:frown: I don't believe I'll be taking him on future trips, which is very disappointing to me.

I hope The Mabes, Keefers, and Clints had a great night Saturday and have a blast today! What a gorgeous area with so much to see and do...............

Well, we're back and still cleaning up. Some reason my cruise control decided not to work on the way back, working now, but should have pulled over and see if it reset. Sorry Clint for the erratic speed changes.

So our part of the trip didn't work out as planned either, as Nalu decided to take a romp through the neighborhood at about 1pm on Friday as we were packed and ready to go. The Park ranger was not flexible in the opening of the gate, so we had to leave on Saturday morning. After a long drive and multiple long walks back and forth to campsite with gear we finally set up camp. Beautiful scenery looking out over the lake at Linville Gorge and Table Rock.

Facilities were great, but the loading of gear put a damper on things. Gates close at 6pm, so seeing the lights was a no-go. But we had a trip up to Table Rock like last year, but both Clint and Lily fell asleep on the way up, so Clint and I turned around and headed back. Menu: Fried turkey, campfire baked potatoes, corn, Jon's family secret green bean casserole, cranberry, stuffin' muffins, and beer...

Jon headed back, Clint and I headed up to Brown Mountain for some light wheeling and refreshments on the bald of Brown Mountain. Some spots were actually weathered enough to provide a nice crawling experience. However this is the second time I've been up there and one of those motorcyclists or ATV'ers are going to get themselves hurt going around the corners at the speed they do, not expecting a 5000lb truck being there!

Short stop at McDonalds for some grub and we headed home.

Great facility if you don't have a lot of gear. Although, you could probably boat everything in and have a shorter walk!

Glad to hang out with everyone again!
