November 2011 Event - Harvest Haul to Harlan

Here is what came out. The one piece is pretty abused from rust/oxidation. I had to do the spool also, don't think it will last long having cable wrapped around it but you can be the test subject for when I rebuild mine.

Not a perfect job, a "quickie" to get them covered in something better than Rustoleum.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, before...

I'm not optimistic for the spool. Powder coat isn't flexible and compression can cause it to crack/chip. Yet, it could survive, depending how well the first wrap goes around the spool.

I'll be using synthetic line on mine and I think it will work better with the powder coat, so Brian will give it a worst case test...

What worries me is the corroded hole on the motor flange, that I didn't really notice until I studied the pics.

From what I can tell, it looks like the flange is produced for different motor types/configurations as the motor housing I have would utilize the two outside bolt holes. I might have to seal that up in order to keep it a little more weather resistant.

Greg, you've rebuilt one of these before, do you recall what the 2 indentions are for running parallel on the flange are for and why one had corroded. It wouldn't be for moisture drainage would it?

It's been a while since I have done one of those and without having the pieces in front of me or a detailed diagram I wouldn't for sure know. I will see if I can look some stuff up tonight.

Pretty much all I got on my iPhone, since there were 2 DSLRs, a point and shoot, and a GoVideo amongst the group.

This hill doesn't look like much in the photo, but for perspective this is significantly steeper than Daniel. Brian and I, in Dozer, led the group down after careful consideration, decided to put the p.s. tires in the rutt. Pitched the 40 to the p.s. a good bit, but not too bad until there was a rock that lined up on the d.s. rear tire that pitched us WAAAAY to the p.s. - we damn near rolled! I cried out an expletive, gassed it, and she righted herself. Could have been pretty ugly, but turned out ok. we then spotted Jon and Del down the hill keeping the p.s. tires up on the ridge and both sides out of the rutts.

This was at the top of "Middle Rock Garden" - way cool trail on a hill with considerable sized rocks. Hopefully a full video to follow. Built 80 spotted on this trail as well, who made it 95% up, but couldn't get over the last obstacle.

Couple of other LCs spotted at the lower rock garden on the way out Saturday. SC guys - only got to talk to one of them and he "used to run with Upstate". Not sure what the deal there is.

Im still uploading videos.
Weekend was about as perfect as anybody could ask for.
I got to test out my 40 in some pretty tough stuff and got through it with alot of spotting. I did have to winch out on the last section of lower garden.

I will post up some more pics later also.
