Ok, so it is not as in depth as the Big Gay 2F build was, but I will be doing some things to my donor 1FZ from a 96 that will be going into my 95 to hopefully stop the incessant rod knocking that seems to plague the one in there now. So I took some beginning pics to chart my progress. Note that this is the easy part, getting the one out and this one in won't be so smart.

I was checking the valves, doing some PM prior to cleaning it up and replacing some random stuff, water pump etc... It is pretty rusty I guess from being in NH, but I plan to clean it and engine paint it to make it look a little better. I will be doing a bunch of work today, so I will post up more pics today....

Pulled the water pump and replaced, pulled headers and am replacing the gaskets, cleaning the TB and such. I also degreased/wire wheeled the block and applied a couple coats of engine black enamel. In the second pic you can even see the engine # and designator on the block, pretty cool I thought. It is coming along, I am just waiting to get an engine stand to do some of the rest of the stuff......

Ooh ooh ooh where it is, and when can I get it!!!

Ok, so we will have one after tomorrow. It will be located at my house until someone needs it....

Seems like a great time to do the PHH. Shouldn't be too pesky while on a stand!

Already done and replaced with silicone one, I don't know why it is such a pesky hose, I found it to be quite easy to replace:meh:

Anyways.... once again, call to arms, if anyone is interested in swapping out a 1FZ-FE please let me know, I can work around others schedules etc.... If so PM, post here, call, fax, e-mail, carrier pigeon whatever to let me know. I will supply all beverages, and even get some ammo for steve.....

Like I said before, I can mold my schedule around anyone who wants to help, so I have no "frame" just let me know and i'll make it happen. I am hoping to have all the replacement parts in by next week, will be gone the 4th and hopefully will get to put it in after that weekend. So maybe that is enough time for people to rise to the occasion and help a member out with a surely daunting task....

Are you going to need to use the club hoist?

I will try to com help. All I can say is when we do decide a date that you have all your ducks in a row. Probably take a full day just to get the other motor ready to come out and a whole day getting the new one in and some of the stuff hooked up.

I have a hoist I can use, I just needed a stand, which we will have today after a short trip to northern tool. I plan on having it prepped and ready, pretty much will be removing the engine mount bolts, the tranny mount bolts, putting the accy's starter, alt, ps pump etc... on the new one, and plugging in the old wiring harness and buttoning her up. Sounds easy enough on paper huh? I'm sure there are suprises, but I plan on being one step ahead of them hopefully.

Ok, more work on the 1FZ, oil pans removed and caps/bearings/con rods checked. All look good, and cyl walls etc are smooth and clean. I have a problem with the rear main. I can get the retainer loose, but it won't come around where the "flywheel" mounts. If anyone has done this please chime in. Also, big mistake, I cross threaded the oil pan while trying to mount it up to the engine stand, but at least I have another one that I can use from another 1FZ.

Ok, so far, top end looks good, replaced some "non reuseable" items up there, valves were all within spec. water pump replaced, TB cleaned thouroughly PHH replaced with silicone one etc... Today I flipped it as the pics show and since the rod bearings were my achillies heel the last time I thought i'd check them. All within spec and look good for 118k on the motor. So all I really have left to do is do the rear main and put the headers back on (with new gaskets of course). The oil pan will come off of my old truck along with the AC bracket, wiring harness is going to be from the old truck, PS pump, Alternator, Starter Distributor, all the fun stuff but that will be day of swap. Hopefully this won't be the hugest pain in the arse that I have in my mind......

Ok, so off engine topic, but still dealing with the 80, I got the wheels back from the sand blaster today where they stripped and epoxy primered them and they went from pic 1 to pic 2 in ~10 min apiece..... fun:D
