not enough toe adjustment??

Just replaced all of my tre's... Installed the new ones by thread count, to get them in the ballpark. The truck actually drives pretty straight, but could be better.
I tried to adjust the toe today, and couldn't get it all the way in specs because both tre's bottomed out in the tie bar. Anyone run into this??? What's next??

I had the same problem a few months back when I replaced my TREs. I ended up cutting a few threads worth off of the the TREs. This took care of the problem.

Where did you get your tres? New tie rod?

got them from cruiser outfitters. They looked just like the ones I removed.

Kurt's a great guy. I'll bet if you call him he'd be a great resource. You shouldn't have to cut your tie rod ends.

The only case I've seen where tapering the TREs down is necessary is when using a stock tie rod with later style or mini-truck steering arms. With a stock setup you should have more than enough adjustment in and out. Unless something is really bent.

well, actually, I don't think there were any threads left showing on the tre's, so trimming them wouldn't help. Maybe I have a bent steering arm, or the wrong one. I have to say though, it drives pretty straight at 70 mph. I just dont want to mess up my new $800 tires!

I HAVE seen this a couple of times. Trimmed the rod back a bit on each side and all was good.

The trimming has to be done on the tie rods or on the bar itself?

I recently had a bent tie rod. Before it was bent the toe was set to FSM spec. I got a used tie rod from $OR. I could not get enough toe-in with the replacement rod and had to trim a bit off the ends of it to get toe-in adjusted to spec.
