Got a small (too small) ultrasonic cleaner at work for parts. Figured I'd try it out.

Greasy nasty tcase vac shifter parts.

After about an hour in it.

If I had a toothbrush here the remaining stuff pretty much wipes off.

Thing is really too small. But I could see a bigger one being nice to have. Preferably with a drain. Have to dump this one out which makes it pretty likely water and crap will get inside where it shouldn't be.
I've been debating buying one, don't have a parts washer either.... Could it replace one or is it a need both sort of deal?

A big one might be able to replace a parts washer. That vevor place this one came from has some that are a lot bigger.

It'd be awesome if a whole tcase half would fit in the tank. They're such a pain in the ass to clean.

These probably aren't the greatest coming from that place, but for that price, turn it into a parts washer once it stops working as an ultra sonic.

It really is pretty effective. This is after a half hour, mostly water with a splash of degreaser.

I'm not sure if you'd ever use a parts washer if you had a big enough one of these. Maybe just as a place to do a final cleanup afterwards, to brush and rinse the last bits off.

Or maybe if you really needed the chemical to strip something in particular off?

The bolts I forgot were in the bottom really came out nice.

Now what we really need is one that’s 20’x6’x5’ deep. Add some degreaser and water and you’ll not have to worry about grimy hands. ;)

Did it remove material or just grease and grime? It looks like a pretty big difference!
I doubt it removed any aluminum. I don't think that degreaser I used is all that aluminum friendly, so it may have discolored it a little. What it leaves behind wipes off pretty easy.

I'd thought 20L was the biggest they made but apparently there's a 30L.

Be nice if it was slightly deeper, bigger. But impressive and to be honest nicer than the mess of conventional
degreaser tank, I'd suspect much less toxic fluid to deal with/

Yeah that one I'm using isn't much bigger than a toaster.

Fluid I was using was mostly water with just a little glug of degreaser.

I'm pretty tempted by the 30 L version, but whatever size it'll need a drain valve. Having to dump this one out kinda sucks.

I’ll come by when I get home. Curious. If another falls off a gurney at your work let me know. Haha.

We had something like that come into the shop, guy said it is the most fun the dollars.
Yeah it looks like it's a blast to drive.

Super practical too

I always liked those Lotus super 7's. There was an unfinished one for sale that tempted me. I knew a guy who had one with a Hayabusa engine in it.
Tried for the world record 0-100-0 in reverse on an airport runway. That sounds freaking terrifying 😳

If I built or bought one of these, I'd put Toyota in it. Specifically, 4AGE 'black top'. Factory high revving goodness with Yamaha hand in development. Really neat motor as from stock: it revs 8000rpm+, 5V per cylinder, individual throttle body per cylinder, yada, yada.

Toyota even made a race version for a series called 'formula atlantic'. Big bucks, but amazing power for the displacement.

I’m sure they’d be a blast.

Every now and then I miss the ‘71 GT6 Triumph I sold years back. It had a rebuilt 2 lite inline 6 with a balanced crank.

Stock about 125 hp in a 2200 lb car that sat 5” off the ground. Even with the crappy tires I had on it, it handled extremely well. Most of the body work was done… just needed the interior and paint. Lots of fun for sure.
