Hey guys a few of us in the Atlanta area are planning a trail ride on 12/2. The ride spots are still in question but anyone is welcome to join us. Check out the thread from MongooseGA in the Clubhouse Forums under Georgia Cruisers. We will most likely ride Charlie's Creek, Caches Valley and maybe Beasley Knob OHV if it is open.
Keeping an eye on this but don’t think I’ll be able to make it this weekend. Are the trails suggested needing rock slider? I currently do not have any protection.
I'm fine with some rain. I have seat heaters. Just don't get stuck or a flat so we don't have to get out and walk around in it
Fingers crossed my truck is ready by the end of this week. I spoke to the shop yesterday and it sounded pretty feasible. Before anyone asks... No it's not totaled again.
I texted Terry @Daddy Rabbit to see if he would be up for this trip. I botched the logistics last time and unfortunately he ended up not joining. If he's good to go, I'll try to find a rendezvous point where we can meet him but I think the Wendy's we all went to before would be a good place to meet all of the not-so-northern people. If I'm driving mine, I'll have at least the dog with me.
Just heard from Terry, he will be occupied this Sunday. He did also suggest Popcorn Rd as a trail and said that another Mud member has been checking out some of his suggested trails recently. @WickedPickle , care to join us this weekend?
I can only speak to Tray Mtn as that's the only actual 'trail' I've run that would have even required 4wd (and even then, we had a 2wd T4R with us kicking ass). Chad did just fine with his stock running boards but IIRC you'd run that trail with him before anyway. Unfortunately I can't comment on Charlie's or Beasley. The latter, I've tried several times to run but it's always been closed due to wash outs.
I did Popcorn rd the other day and it was fun...only a few tech sections and two deep mud holes. There have been some large rigs (37" tires) having fun on the road so if it rains heavy I'm not sure how it will be....I came from the 197 and 76 intersection and traveled up hill....you go down the popcorn road (dirt) until you see a forest service road sign on your left...take that and you're off on an adventure.
Bring recovery straps just in case if you guys don't have a winch. Should be fine and no you don't need sliders for this trail. I don't think I bottomed out at all except in the mud hole, but I didn't get stuck. I run my front pretty low in terms of my lift set up b/c I like driving fast on forest roads (low tension on TB).
I don't know that I can make it Sunday either but keep me in mind. Always enjoy wheeling with others Toyota's.
I was thinking the other day... If you just took an angle grinder to the steps on your old sliders, wouldn't that just be the same as getting new flat ones?
I mean, don't mention it to your wife because that might hinder the money you get to spend, but...
To Pickle's comment: I will be coming with some straps, shackles, compressor and deflator. Anyone is welcome to use whatever is needed. I'll have 3 radios again as well (charged this time) and the 2 spares are up for grabs.
Looks like the Wendy's in Cumming is the spot to get together. Right next to Cracker Barrel but not a jam packed parking lot on a Sunday morning.
This is the address for CB: 675 Buford Hwy, Cumming, GA 30040
Should we shoot for the same 10AM meet up time? I'll try to gas up prior to. If needed, there's a RaceTrac right across the street that we stopped at last time for drinks and snacks.
I would do Popcorn and then go hit Charlie's creek to wash off...find Tallulah river road and take it towards tate city....there will be a weird forest service sign on the left saying don't ford rivers in non designated areas...that's the crossing to get to the trail....it's not deep like Earl's ford can be at times. Both are fun and not too difficult.
