Ok just had a friend install a new Goodman 16 SEER unit, it's in a hallway closet between bedrooms. He's out of town right now so I haven't talked to him but this thing is noisy, it sucks air like a hurricane. I thought about moving it into the attic but what about sound barriers? Something like Dynamat or Accoulblock or whatever it is. I was going to use some insulation board on the walls in there but now I'm thinking of wrapping the handler, thoughts, experiences?

it's 20"x20", pretty standard. It has a two phase fan thingy which fires up like a nuclear powerplant. I'm thinking of wrapping the handler in some kind of accoustic tile/rubber material.

it's both but I could live with the air sound, I figure even if I move it to the attic I will still hear that at the return. The fan motor is ridiculous, it quiets down after initial start up but gawd damn.

It's inside the house?

Are you on a slab or something? The only place I ever lived that had a unit inside was a two bedroom apartment. My old house on a slab still had everything outside.

I dunno - pm crazy. I think that's like the one thing he knows about besides eating boogers.

gottcha........dont wrap the handler itself cause it will get way to hot however wrapping the wall of the enclosed space itself may be an option.. be back.............I will go look at the specs of the system for ventilation purposes.
that's the condenser, it's outside, this is the handler, it has the coil and fan motor.

from what I can tell it looks like the insulation board(silver and foam) would be ok as long as you didn't get crazy with it the only thing that concerns me is the solid state devices(electronics) For some damn reason I could not bring up the schematic but I am surprised a little at the noise of the fan cause it appears being its at least a 5 speed fan maybe with even a dc pulse motor? Just keep track of the temps inside the cabinet. Dont mount the board to the enclosed space till you play with the temps for a bit but I think you will be ok?

Does this unit have a electric heat like some models?

wrap the fxxx out of the plenum and whatever ductwork you want. The unit I was looking at was single phase. What is the fan speed and the btu;s? hell it may be oversized for the house

move that bitch to the attic or add ventilation with a high speed fan on a thermostat on to the outside.

brillant run on sentance:hillbilly:
yeah it's an electric heater, my concern is what you brought up, internal heat. it could be a multiple speed fan or maybe it's variable, not sure.
