Anyone used the Noico GREEN sound deadener? Its 170mil thick (vs the common 80mil) and supposedly waterproof. Everything I could find on mud pointed to the 80mil, so wondering if anyone has used the green and their impressions of it.

Surprisingly its cheaper than the thinner stuff. Makes me wonder if there is something wrong that I don't understand? E.g. too thick to get under the carpet, not pliable enough to use, etc......

I used both the 80 mil is the sound deadener. It’s a foil faced butyl. Then I put the 170 mil insulation on top of that. I think it works pretty well. If you’re not removing the original deadener then you could just use the insulation. I didn’t put either on the wheel wells in the back and you can hear a lot of road noise from it. The pic is the only one I could find of it.

So it's not an either/or, but both?

Sort of. The 80 mil is sound deadener. Similar to the original material that was or is in the floor of your 80. It’s designed to deaden the metal vibrations in the cab. The 170 mil is a closed cell foam insulation. It’s not going to absorb the vibrations they way the butyl material does. The reason I used both is I replaced the carpet with vinyl and there isn’t any insulation in it. If you’re going back with carpet the 80 mil is probably all you need. You might double it up in the floor pans the transmission tunnel and the wheel wells. Those seem to be the areas with the most noise.

I just used the 80, I thought the thicker stuff was gonna be more difficult to work with.

Very happy with the 80 although it was a PITA of a job, never again, but I’m glad I’m done.

I use a combo of the butyl dynamat type product then cover with noico foam. If you can fit the 170 do it but with the butyl mat, 80 mil and carpet it gets tight under some of the plastic moldings etc. I usually use double foam in certain places if I can to absorb the sound. The dynamat stops the sound from resonating and the foam actually absorbs it.

I stacked these...
Noico 80mil , Noico Green (170mil)

I covered the cargo area, and roof up to the sunroof tray, skipped the wheel wells for now. Carpet and panels all went back in and it is definitely quieter, but I still need to do more for it to be 'quiet'.

I'm terrible at taking pics during a project. Only one I took was the roof in the cargo area with just the 80 mil on. I covered this with the 170 before putting the headliner back in.

I'd avoid running just the green. As mentioned above, it has no mass, so won't stop vibrations and rattles.

This is on my to do list when I pull my headliner. Did you do the pillars too ?

Product descriptions say the 170 is more for temperature insulation (neato) than sound, but does have a sound effect as well. I would use both. If you read all the reviews on amazon, they say the 170 is suprisingly still pretty easy to work with.

Had some leaks I was chasing, so decided to limit the number of times I had to pull the headliner. Drove around for a bit without it, so maybe the insulation didn't help, but having the headliner back in did....

Didn't do the pillars, just floor and ceiling. Need to do the wheel wells and rear quarters. Have a bunch leftover.

The 170 isn't a butyl product, it is adhesive backed foam, so it is light and very easy to cut and work with. I wouldn't want to roll a 170mil butyl.
