'71 FJ40 with a mild RV 350 in it, with a QuadraJet from an '84 Vette.
The exhaust used to have a light coating of medium-dark gray in it.
Now there is no soot whatsoever. The inside of the exhaust pipe looks the same as the outside. If you wipe the inside with your finger, it comes out clean.
I don't want to burn a valve from running too lean. On the other hand, Oregon has gone to a mandated 10% ethanol blend. I'm wondering if this has leaned out the mixture enough to make it burn cleaner, and if the lower BTU rating of 10% gasohol is enough to prevent burned valves and melted piston tops?
