Hi Guys,

My 2000 cruiser w/ 135K won't crank or start and I can't even get a dome light on. Help!

Background:

For years, she has been having trouble starting in cold weather after sitting for 2-3 days. I always just jump it with a portable battery charger but yesterday I decided to buy a battery with the most CCA I could find as I thought my 650CCA rated battery (which tests OK) just might not have enough juice to start her in the cold. The new battery has 840CCA and is this:

X2Power Premium AGM 840CCA BCI Group 24F Car and Truck Battery - SLI24FAGMDP - https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/SLI24FAGMDP?storecode=922&source=google&medium=shopping&campaign=ecommpla&gclid=Cj0KCQiAg_KbBhDLARIsANx7wAz5jWOPONBXywRV6FUZ5_8kyzKpYax6xB2TOOUKcx9iQrOqh6dhWzEaAklKEALw_wcB

This morning, she started up fine, i drove to the supermarket and 30 min later I started her up fine but noticed that the radio was acting funny- it kept on rebooting (it is an aftermarket Sony) and it would not tune in a station-just static (same with bluetooth- you could hear the music but underneath a ton of white noise static). So i turned the car off while parked in the parking lot but when i went to turn it back on to see if the radio would come back to normal, nothing happened- i mean nothing- no lights, no beeps, no cranks, nothing. I started checking electrical connections under the hood and pulled some fuses and put them back in, tugged on wires, banged the fuse box, and then she started back up again. Drove home, parked in driveway, turned her off and now the same thing- completely dead.

What do you think could be going on here? Help!?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Use the search function. Known problem and known solution for no start. Something to do with efi fuse and a bypass kit.

I did use the search function but thanks for the help.

I'd look to the last thing you messed with - the battery. Check the connections for corrosion, etc. Check the ground. Have the battery tested, make sure you didn't get a bad one.
Connectors and ground all check out, no corrosion, but I will get the new battery checked out if I can the truck started again!

Put the shifter in neutral and see if that starts it. I had a similar issue and that always seemed to work. My issue just mysteriously went away without intervention, honestly I’m kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop. It’s been about 2 years since though.

That didnt do it but I just put back in the old battery and it started right up. I think I got a bad battery.

I had a similar problem. Noticed the negative cable was a bit loose but didn’t think that much of it. Put a new battery in and nothing. Went to take it out and put the old battery back in and made sure the cable was tight and it worked. Been working fine for the past year.

Interesting. I triple checked the connections and they were very tight. I am going to try and return the battery tonight and have them run some tests on it- if it is defective, that would be the best case scenario.

Shouldn't have anything to do with that known problem, that is a crank but no start issue.

Putting shifter in nuetral shouldn't have anything to do with this either. OP mentioned no dome lights and no power at all.

OP has no crank, no start, no lights. @JonD sounds like you are on the right track but you need to get a cheap little volt meter or else this is a guessing game with a bunch of bad guesses from people...... If you have no power at all the first place to start is, as mentioned, checking you connections and providing us with a voltage of the battery.

At least she is running again, keep us posted.

Thank you for this- I will indeed update the thread after I get the battery tested.

Brought the battery in last night and it failed every diagnostic they ran on it- guy behind the counter said it’s the first one they have ever seen. Most likely a short or loose connection inside the battery. They tested a replacement in front of me and decided to exchange it as opposed to getting a refund. Hope this one works as advertised!
