Went to NTB looking to pick up a set of 285 75 16 Nitto Terra Grapplers and while I was there I kept eying the BFG All Terrains. The sales guy had personally owned both and said that the tread on the ATs seems to last a lot longer. I was 90% set on the TGs when out of the corner of my eye I saw two ATs with used sale stickers on them. They had been used for a couple of days and still had the little rubber knobbies on them. Price was about $75 per tire cheaper than new. One look at the tire size and I was all in. Got two new and two barely used tires installed and out the door for $850.
I must be partially deaf or something b/c I don't know what people are talking about when they say these are a little louder on the road. I couldn't tell any difference. Only change I see is about a 5% loss of grunt accelerating from a stop light. Ride height is also noticeably higher. I think for my application these are about the ideal size. They are meaty and fill out the wells quite nicely.
Here are some pics for reference. This is a stock 02 with the torsion bars adjusted so that the front is up about an inch. the PO had installed Monroe Reflex shocks so I am not sure if that affected the stock ride height. The stinkbug appearance is due to the slope of the parking lot.
Next comes ordering some WK sliders and installing the TJM T15 steel bumper...
