Pfran,

What size are the BFG AT's you got? 285 75 16? I wasn't sure, you talked about Nitto's at that size. I just wanted to make sure the AT's were that size too. Also what load rating did you get? This post seals the deal for me those tires look great, not to big not to small. Very nice find.

ATs are 285 75 16 load rating D. I did not go with the E since the 2 used tires were already D (and I don't carry a lot of weight)

The tires look a little larger in real life than in the pictures. I love the size/fit. It reminds me of how RR Defender 110 wheels look (and I stress the word "look"),...confident but not pretentious.

Thought I would get back to the original topic for just a second... I have owned many sets of BFG ATs and my newest Lexus came from the po with Terra Crapplers. I have to say that I am super underimpressed with the Nittos. They are not a BAD tire, but I have yet to see a single circumstance where they out shine the BFGs. The BFGs are FAR better in snow, however if you care about such things, I think the Nittos might be about 5% quieter...

My exact experiences as well. My BFG's (2 sets now) have been solid. And as you said, much better in snow (as an AT can be). I'm going to try Duratrac's on the next go around, just to try them out. They've got the same severe winter service rating, so I hope they will be as good as the BFG's.

TJM said they are coming back to the USA....

My bet is the Camel guys will bring them in with Ironman...I hope so.

On topic...I like AT-KO's better than the TG's I have....they are quieter and ride better, however, I needed a change in scenery.

The longevity of the BFGs is due (obviously?) to the hardness of the rubber. The 285s on my 80 had 80K miles on them when I replaced them with 305s. They still had quite a bit of tread (weren't even close to bald, no uneven wear etc.) but they were HARD.

I doubt that they were really a safe road tire at the point I got rid of them.

I really wish I could afford to pick tires for performance/safety/looks with no care for mileage, but the BFGs really do offer the best deal when computing $cost per mile.

I personally love the KO's. Superb wear and handling.
