Consumer Reports recently ranked the Nittos #1 A/T in their 2006 SUV issue. The Revos were also highly rated (#3, I believe).
For those who don't get CR, the Revo scored equal to or better than the Nitto TG on both dry and wet except in emergency handling. The Nitto TG scored better on the snow traction and much better on "ice braking w/o ABS."

What's interesting is the Toyo Open Country A/T placed 4th while the Nitto TG placed 1st. Very similiar looking tire produced by the same manufacturer. Only they would know if there are really any differences between the two.

I think Greg said "unlocked." Or did I miss something in another post?

yes, but folks have said before in the context of locked diffs that they would avoid problems with different tire size simply by deflating one. Comes up periodically. Flat (!) wrong IMHO... :) So just a reminder/editorial comment.

was there anything about life expectancy in this CR review?

But that's not what I said. You're debating a point that nobody made.

e9999 - Not really - more of a review from a performance perspective - no long-term review that I remember.

i had the nittos on my runner for a while before upgrading to MT/R's.

i had 265-75-16's and they were fairly quiet for such an agressive tread and worked VERY well offroad.

i got them a few years ago mounted and balanced out-the-door for $530. i put about 22k on them (IIRC) and then sold them for about $350 when i got the MT/R's. at that time, they still had tons of tread left -about 3/4 of the original tread - and were still quiet. i really liked them and know that i could have easily gotten 50k out of them before worrying about replacements.

also, you guys should consider the 305/70-16's. they're basically a 33x12.50 instead of a 33x11.50 (the 285's).

if you go to nitto's website, you can look at the actual diameter, width, and rev's per mile for each size...
