Hello,

I am looking for a trail spare axle for my rig. I am specifically looking for the rear passenger side and it needs to be an either a factory Elocker axle or a Nitro axle. I can’t use stock non-Elocker because I narrowed my housing by 4 inches, so I will need to cut three inches off the axle. If anyone has one they want to get rid of let me know.

Edit: turns out the stock Elocker threaded section is not long enough. Still looking.

How long do the splines need to be? I have a poly performance cro mo in the shed, at lest I think I do.

It needs to be cut down three inches from the stock short side length. At that length it just needs enough thread to fit in the carrier, so about an 1.5 inches but I will have to measure the thread size wham I get home.

Wouldn’t a stock elocker axle
Shaft work as well?

I don’t have one but just food for thought

I am not sure I don’t know how long the threaded section is on an Elocker axle shaft. If anyone knows how long the threaded section on an Elocker axle shaft is please share? If it would work I would be interested in one of those.

Look up the thread on where to machine the splines so the shaft doesn’t rotate and get stuck in the diff. It will have measurements. Pretty sure the splines are 5-6” long total. The locking collar is out side the bearing hold down on the diff.

I was just reading another thread with short axle side Elocker measurements they listed the thread length at 4.15 and thread engagement length at 1.2 inches on the the non Elocker side. I will research the thread you mentioned to compare the information but from what I just read I think I could make a factory Elocker axle work.

Found the other thread shows the thread length is 4.2+ inches. Certainly appears I could be use a stock Elocker axle. Edit: it won’t work.

If anyone has a stock rear passenger side Elocker axle I would be interested.

How close is your short side to the 40/60/70 series full floating short side? Believe the non locking axle inner FF axle is still available. Believe your non running a E-Lockers? Would like to find another locking axle version. Foolishly only bought one while they were still available.

I don’t know if a FF short side from a 40/60/70 would work. In this market I had not figured they would be easy to find, so didn’t research. If I am buying new I could just order a custom one for my needs. I am looking for a cheaper trail spare. What I have is working but because it is a custom length it would be hard to get quickly if I broke it on the trail.

I will eventually buy one new if I have too but I am hoping someone has one in their shed they don’t need.

I did some searching and found Cruiser Outfitters had the FF axles specs. Listed to answer your question.

From CO:
Full-Float:
(measured approximately from gasket surface at hub to end of shaft)

40/55/70 Series Drivers Side: 35-7/8" (1-7/8" splines)
40/55/70 Series Passenger Side: 24-1/8" (1-7/8" splines)
60/62 Series Drivers Side: 24" (2" splines)
60/62 Series Passenger Side: 38-1/4" (2" splines)
80 Series Drivers Side: 36-3/8"
80 Series Passenger Side: 29"

The axle length I need has to be 25” +/- a hair with at least 1 1/4 inches of thread at the end of it. Non of the FF 40/60/70 options would work for my needs.

I picked up a stock Elocker spare that I think will work but I want to compare it with the one in my truck to make sure it will have enough threads after being cut to work. If it doesn’t work I will get back to you.

Edit: the stock Elocker axle will not work.

I am still looking. I found the stock Elocker axle will not work. I guess I need a Nitro cut to fix axle because it needs to cut down to 25”. Why Nitro some may ask because I am being cheap and I am simply looking for a trail spare and it is unlikely I will break the what I have considering how I use my truck. It appears I can buy a Nitro axle new for $250.00 which I may do. I would pay 150.00 for a good used one if anyone has one wasting away in their shelf.
