This is still on CL which i think says something about the current market for 40s. San Diego (especially north county...I'm looking at you Encinitas) is full of 40-50 year old guys in the middle of a mid-life crisis that have so much money that they don't know what to do with it. The fact that they aren't on this truck like a pack of dogs on a three legged cat is amazing and shows that sellers have watched one too many Barret Jackson auctions and have totally distorted the market.

Yep. Prices are coming back down to reality for a lot of different vehicles. There’s a thread in the Classifieds here about FJ40 pricing and I provided some anectdotal evidence for the 40 price decline. I’ve been tracking prices on CL and eBay and saved a lot of screenshots over the past 2.5 years. There was one sweet tan nut and bolt restos locally in Vancouver, WA that didn’t sell for $36k.

Anyhow, sorry to derail the thread but it’s a bummer for me, because I might have overpaid for my recently purchased 77 FJ40. It was a frame off resto of the body and undercarriage with the interior left untouched to show the original patina. The engine only had 57k documented miles but it still needed a lot of work so I dropped $1700 at an automotive shop. So now I’m into it for $27.7 (including shipping cost). The only thing i need to do now is replace the weather seal trim, get a matching spare tire and wheel, and maybe install a radio and speakers. Oh, eventually convert the rear brakes and add power steering. That’s all folks!

I also own a ‘78 and that Sky Blue one in San Diego is worth every penny in my book.
