I am going to buy some 35" BFG KM2 for my 40. I usually go to sam's club as they normally have the best deal but is there any place in the area that you can get smoking deals at?

check Costco. Right now I believe they are running a special on Michelins & BFG's

I read the same thing. For me, the best thing for that situation is to show up in a pickup with the rims you want to mount the new tires on sitting in the back and say they're for an F350 or whatever. That way you kill two birds with one stone, you don't have to worry about some putz driving your cruiser (I can still hear the gear clash from a putz at the frame shop), and you get the tires that you want.

thats what i did with the 60 and my f250. just put the rims in the back and told them they were for a off road buggy and they were in amazement and put me in front of people that were waiting lol

I know wal-mart had an issue with this for a little while. They now make you sign a release if the tires are not the same size as the factory specs. But if you can find a wal-mart that has someone who knows what they are doing, the $3 a wheel and tire mount and balance isnt bad.
