Everyone backs away from this job. No one wants to tango with the 400 pound tranny.

I have talked to glenn and it is a little outside my price range.

It took a few hours of work for Glenn to do mine.....it would take days for me never having done one before.

I paid the money for Glenn to do it as it is the one thing I cant even try on my own without right tools and such.

Ron, you have a 4 speed, Auto's are much bigger and heavier.
I wouldn't even do my own without a lift and a trans jack.

Trans out

My air compresor is on the fritz due to wiring issue, but the lift and transmisson jack are fine if you'll want to work on it here. I will likley be working on the air compressor as most of what I need now is related to that job but willing to work on the tranny with the club if needed.:)

i was not doubting...just stating that due to the job at hand I felt better paying Glenn as I did not have the skills or the tools to tackle it myself even with help in my driveway.

Indian Doc,I have not had a chance to call work and some out of town business got in the way. IF you know what you are doing and have the right tools, the supposedly you just unbolt the tranny and slide it back and slip the new seal in.

Kind of. There are some linkages and cooler lines you have to disconnect. Then the torque converter and flex plate have to be removed Once that is done the reset is pretty easy. With 3 guys and air tools we did it in about 6hrs.

It's a heavy beast. maybe 250-300. We did it with a crappy tranny jack and a few floor jacks.

6 hrs I am going to have to give Brock lextech and others. A lot of beer to have their help

Motivation, sweet motivation only Brock can provide.

R.K. is supposed to hook me up with a sweet cage that will save me a trip to Atlanta. If he comes through, I'll be at the meeting in Evelyn.

I don't present myself as a mechanicial expert at all but I do have the lift, a heavy transmission jack, and with some wiring a heavy air compressor on site. Time and other factors I am limited in, and slow as molassis. But Marshall is right there are a few other items involved and all my experence has been with manual trans and transfers no auto's at all. But I have pulled and replaced seals on manual 40;s ,and 55;s and 60's still no expert. I am Also old an grumpy as hell,,,,, so bring help if you come up. Marshall good to see your still around. Doc

What Doc failed to mention is that the trans jack is a floor model, not one to use with a lift. Clayton, how much was "out of you price range"?

If I remeber Glenn told me 800 to 1k. I really only can afford a 200 dollars and noone will do it for that. I also want to help out and do it. That is why I bought my truck is to learn more about mechanics.

Yeah it's up to loosen, down to the floor jack and secure the rear of the engine then remove trans and tranny then replace seal. The trans tranny back up to finish at a comfortabe level but still easier than on jack stands alone. Doc:beer:

Might get to start mine up on the 13th. We will see the electrician is suppose to be here tomorrow to re wire the compressor hope it works out that way. Doc
