Yuk! Typical BMW product - Bring My Wrenches crap. Oh Toyota, how far you have fallen.
On a Z4 platform, double Yuk!

In this case, “bring my wire” to update the software. Why the heck would they need software to limit the brakes at startup?

What’s wrong with brakes that would need a computer involved in them? Why should there ever not be power assist? KISS

Nothing wrong with 40 brakes… modulation by foot (or by big toe in my case). There shouldn’t be software that can turn off braking under any circumstances.

My work van auto brakes. I could be surfing ih8mud and it will stop its self from hitting the car in front without ANY assist.. from me.

So the new supra is actually a BMW?

Your reaction was similar to everyone else's on teh interwebs a couple years ago when details first emerged on this car. There was epic amounts of outrage and endless discussion. I followed it for a while as I was excited about a new Supra. At the end of the day, the car has not disappointed though. Most have acknowledge the end product is fantastic. It's common for manufacturers to share design/manufacturing resources these days to make development of new models more affordable.

Toyota definitely did their due diligence on all parts received from BMW. Apparently they tore everything apart to the last screw and reviewed all the engineering of every assembly. Recommendations were made by Toyota and taken by BMW to improve quality in certain areas - getting it up to Toyota standards.

Folks are making 700hp+ on these motors with no issues. Cars are fast as hell and extremely well executed. I'd buy one in a second if I was in the market for something like that. For the performance, they're a real bargain.

Here are some great videos on tear down of the BMW engine, and build into a 1000hp version. That same shop has more videos of full tear down of the car as well. Really neat to watch.

Oh, I'm not particularly offended by it, just hadn't heard about it before now.

Probably fun as hell, but useless as tits on a donkey.

Wish I could afford something so useless yet fun! I'd get into trouble pretty quick though I think. 0-60 in 3.9s. 12.5s 1/4 mile. All stock. ECU is opened up for easy tuning. Tune and dump pipe allow for a 10s 1/4 mile. Despite being so quick, the car handles on par with some of the best like Porsche Cayman etc.

I actually learned quite a bit watching the videos above about the engine. Tech that's fairly common in new cars now like gasoline direct injection and plastic intake manifolds, lol. Some of the custom parts those guys have made a pretty neat - like 3-d printed manifolds etc. Gives an idea of what a person is up against trying to heavily modify a modern engine.

Anyhow, I guess this digresses from old cruiser quite a bit now....sorry.

Haha, nah it's more interesting than what I'm doing.

Which is bodywork I'm nowhere near patient enough for and hurling curses at various parts suppliers😤

Papadopoulos is quite the perfectionist, watched that series start to finish. One of the cool items on the car was a inter cooler that appeared to be 3d printed around the intercooler itself and made to be a bolt on unit. Only way to take it apart was cut the plastic away, they upgraded that part among many others.

He did a bit on using his thousands of dollars in measuring tools up against plain old plastigauge. He was surprised to see how accurate the plastigauge worked.

Glad you enjoyed them.

This is more like it. Not that I could afford one if it actually happened.

Hadn't realized all Tacoma owners were considered dirtbags. Thought it was only the ones I knew :flipoff2:

It is interesting as I understand that the baby Duramax currently in the GMC Colorado will end
production in 2022. They won't have a diesel in any small trucks after that, but GMC also is ditching
internal combustion all together I'm just not remembering that predicted date.

Ford just dumped it's diesel from the F150 lineup too. Not sure about dodge ecodiesel production? Sounds like Toyota is coming a bit late to the party though.

Remember the big hype on the Cummins 2.8, many companies including Tor Fab are dropping that engine due to parts availability. First of all why do they need parts so soon:poof:

They seem to do that. Still messing with hydrogen when just about everyone else is diving into electric.

They'll still need to figure out a convenient fuel source, and overcome that bit of bad press hydrogen got in 1937...

That was done on purpose cause America had no defense for the German durables that floated around the world to drop the odd
middle of the night bomb undetected. There were discouraging its use. ----------

And if you believe that, I've got another 847 conspiracy theories I dug up out the interweb.
