Coming from an 80, I had assumed the Center Diff Lock works the same way.

When you shift into 4WD low, the center diff locks

I wheeled on 4 trails in Ouray and never saw the Diff lock light come on, didn't think about it. Last night was reviewing the owners manual and it says you have to push the button (even in lo) to engage the center diff lock

I know that the earlier 100 series work the same as the 80.

Did I misread the manual?

No wonder it handled like a fat 80 without the center diff locked on the trail

curious if this was a change in 2003...

Do you also get OD while in Low range? Or just 1-4?

I was disappointed when the 100 denied me overdrive... so that's 2 mods I need to do: one to free up the CDL, the other to restore OD.

Yes, button push is required on '04 (2003 and newer?) Shift to 4 lo will not auto engage the CDL. Just the way I like it.

OD is 5th gear so there is no overdrive on the 5 speed

Thanks Jon, bet it would wheel better with the CDL engaged :D

It sure does, but being able to disengage has it's advantages too, think tight corners.
