hey guys,
My names Bryan and i just turned 16. My dad gave me his pride and joy 93 land cruiser and i am looking to put a medium sized lift kit and new tires on it. Because of money restrictions(my minimum wage job just doesnt cut it) i cant go to big, but i am looking to put about a 3 inch kit onit, and some very aggressive, nice looking offroad tires, that will still be suitable for on road conditions. I really have no idea what type, size, lift kit to get, and also have no idea what else i will need to go along with it. If any of you guys know what tires would fit after i put a lift on, let me know. Also if i decide it will be to costly to put a kit on, what offroad tires would fit a standard 93 cruiser. Thank you guys for all of your time and your opinions, suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.
Bryan

Well. I relate to you on the money problems. Im 17 and have had to work my entire summer so far to get the money for tires. But here you go.

You can fit 305 or 285 tires which are a 33 inch tire with no scraping at all so they will fit fine. Also, as for lifts, a 3 inch body or suspension? I dont know if they make a 3 inch suspension for the cruiser but I know they make 4 inch. Check this link out for some suspension lift kits. http://www.sleeoffroad.com/products/80_suspension.htm

Now, if your looking for some tires that are going to do good on road as well as off, you are going to want to look at the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. More than likely youre like me and drive your car to school or will be next year and need a rig thats gonna be very capable on the street. If you have any more questions, just ask.

Oh, and after a 4 inch lift im sure you could easliy clear 35's or 315s with miniml or no scraping.

For me, I figured a lift was way too costly for me so Im going with some 33 inch tires, taking my running boards off and thats gonna be the height its gonna stay at for awhile.

hey thanks a lot man, yeah i took my running boards off to, ill take a look at those tires and suspension you told me about

Since you don't want to spend much money, you probably want to do a fairly well proven and conservative lift in order to make sure you don't need to do follow up work for vibrations, etc.

I'll also assume you're not going to be adding on a lot of expensive and heavy aftermarket bumpers or other armor, so you'll stay close to stock weight.

If that's the case, a good starting point for your research would be the OME 2.5" medium lift, with a set of 33" tires. I bought the Terra Grapplers, as they are fairly agressive but are still top rated by Consumer Reports for their on-road handling.

That's enough to get you going. The slee link above is an essential read, and a good link to a good supplier.

Well i hear a lot of good things about those Bridgstone tires. i have had really good luck with my 33" Buckshot Maxxis Mudders, they are pretty quiet on the highway but with totally dominate off the road. i am very fond of them and pretty cheep too.

As far as lifts go... well they do my a 3 inch by OME. (www.man-a-fre.com) which is a great kit and lots of people do it so it wouldn't be hard to find someone with some experience in that field.

Good luck with the project, and be safe.

Take a look in the FAQ in the modifications section on OME Lifts. You will find that useful.

my minimum wage job just doesnt cut it

Will you even be able to put gas in the thing and insure it!! God, six 2% cost of living wage increases for the house and senate in a row and somehow they keep turning down anything to make min. wage $7.25, AMAZING!! Don't get me wrong, I don't really care and would rather it stays where it is but after ten years at $5.15 I feel really bad for anybody haveing to buy anything with those wages..

That said, the nitto Terra Grapplers are very good tires, I got mine with the certs (get certs) from discount tire for $675 out the door, tax certs and all... Start there, 285/75/16s and see if you're still wanting a lift..

GOOD LUCK MANY AND SHOUT IF YOU NEED ANYTHING!!!

When you say "certs" are you referring to keeping the sales receipt for business-related tax deductions at the end of the year?

Bigger than 33's normally requires a gear swap front/rear ($$$) to keep the motor in its same powerband. Larger tires than that will also kill your gas mileage even further.

Stick with 285/75/16's (33") and stock lift to begin with. The tires alone will cost you some money. Anything larger than a 2.5" lift can affect the handling/driveability of the truck on the street/hwy.

Does the truck have locking differentials?

BTW- driving mostly on the highway and doing about 260 miles to a tank I put in $60 to fill it with 87 octane. Gets 14mpg driving pretty mellow.

I hope your pops is helping you out with gas even partially. If not your minimum wage job won't be enuf. I spend close to $400/month on gas for this truck.
