First post for me....'98 LC, 285/75-16 Pro Comp Xtreme Mud Terrains, tweaked torsion bars, PAID FOR.
I am in the Ridgecrest, CA area in the Mojave Desert and wheel the LC pretty extensively in my area in its stock form. It's time to start modifying and replacing parts, as I now have a "company" car and don't have to use it as a daily driver. I came from Texas to California, and the first thing I noticed was "Where in the heck is the mud ?? " The rock crawling thing is kind of new to me, and I figured out real quick that those pesky running boards had to go adios. I bashed the heck out of them on a moderate trail run, and my wife was cringing the whole time. Oh well....I was frankly very impressed of what the LC could do on the rocks in its stock form. I had a '93 YJ before the LC that was lifted, locked, etc. and the LC would hang with it, no problem. Don't mean to ramble here during my intro......

Ramble in a few posts, that way we can get pics of the rig after 5.... WELCOME. enjoy the addiction

Appreciate the welcome. Are spacers in the rear a bad idea? What about keys for the torsion bars...anyone make these??

Good luck with the mods and welcome! :flipoff2:

Welcome! JICYDK (just in case you don't know ;)) the very first mod IMO you should do is install the ARB front locker to strengthen a weakness that results in much bigger problems and expense if it breaks before you install the ARB. Plenty of first hand experiences with pics posted here...OK: You've been warned .

T-bar keys?

Dan, your heart is in the right place. And I can vouch for that first thing to do is the front diff. :):)

Welcome!

Ugghhh... that gear shot just makes my skin crawl...

A sound I will never forget.

Welcome and post some pix of your rig! :flipoff2:

I'll try to post some pics tonight. My wife/kids are out of town, so I will actually have time to do it. Man, that front diff gear looks like it exploded.....bet that sounded nice afterward. The "keys" that I was referring to are also known as "pork chops", and from what I understand, replace the thingamajigs that hold the torsion bar adjustment in place and supposedly give you lift without altering alignment angles. I personnally call BS on this one...sounds too good to be true.

No such thing for hundy's that I'm aware of. Just crank the t-bar adjusters to the right height (make sure you preserve a minimum of 60mm droop though). If you're going to add a front bumper and winch you'll probably want to upgrade to the OME t-bars. Otherwise you'll be just fine with the OEM's. And you might want to consider the Slee Diff Drop kit if you're going to raise the front...and watch out for leaky CV's after you change your front ride height...

Thanks for the info on the droop. I need to check that. I only went up about 1.5 inches (at least that is what it looked like as well as I could measure it) and had a 4 wheel alignement done when I got the new tires last week. CV boot had a small tear in it before I went up; I know I need to fix this sooner than later. Hopefully it is a DIY project....I'm not adding a bumper or winch any time soon, so I am glad to hear that I will be OK on the stock bars for a while. Not having to spend $ on that may allow me to get the diff drop in its place. Do you recommed buying OME springs/shocks from Slee or maybe seeing if I can get them cheaper at 4 Wheel Parts via price matching? I wouldn't have to pay shipping that way, although I would like to establish myself as a Slee cusotmer, as I truly believe, based on what I read here, that he stands behind the products he sells. Thoughts? Thanks guys.

Well...I have purchased most of my accessories, sans Fox shocks, from Christo Slee. I have to pay shipping anyway...and although he may not be (or he may be...) the down and dirtiest lowest price he and his staff's (Ben) customer service and support before AND after the sale are tops in my book: And that, for me, is worth whatever, if any, price difference there is.

How long has the CV boot been torn? Depending on how long its been driven torn, how much CV grease/lube is NOT there, dirt contamination to the CV itself you may be better off replacing the entire CV shaft assembly. In any case I would wait to do this until after you get it lifted where you want it including the diff drop kit.

There are numerous CV threads on this forum that you may want to peruse.

Here's a recent one: https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/224776-inboard-front-driveshaft-boots-torn.html
