Hey guys, just bought a '97 LX450 in pretty decent shape, but the cruise control doesn't engage and I feel like this torn hose that is hissing may be to blame (but also totally may not!)

Anyway, I have been Googling and looking at diagrams, but so far can't find out what this part is so I can order a new one. The sloppy attempt at repair was done by a previous owner. Any help would be appreciated!

I also broke mine and it ended up being some sort of fuel vapor filter and I glued mine back together three or 4 times with no luck. What i ended up doing was putting a toothpick in the hole in the filter and heating the end of that small plastic tube that broke off with a lighter and sticking it back on when the plastic melted a little. Has been going string for 3 or so years now. I am not sure that it would cause your cruise control issues but it most definitely is causing a vacuum leak if it is hissing.

Thanks! I try to find out through searching, but when you don't know what something is called its tough to search. :)

Where in Texas are you? Welcome!

It's listed as Filter, gas, no. 1, with (at least) two different part numbers:
90917-11022
90917-11023
You need to check the parts list with your VIN to determine which you have. It's used all over the Toyota fleet; it's not specific to the Land Cruiser.

You can find it on the vacuum piping diagram, but, unfortunately, not in the FSM (at least not in any of mine).

EDIT: @Desert Dino beat me to it!

Curious...looked the P/N up in another thread. Some info from Sumotoy:

ID of the "Gas Filter"

Good to see it's not just the german parts that don't translate well. That's a dampened vacuum source for the Fuel Pressure Regulator. IIRC on the double port 'gas filter' on the AFM trucks, it also feeds vacuum to the PAIR valve.

It's dampened to soften sudden changes in throttle position vs fuel pressure. Although the engine can run with FPR open to atmosphere, that vacuum source is critical for proper fuel regulation. It's the primary source of calculated engine "load" in the EFI system tables. Fix or replace.

Being a "filter" in an area that does get clogged and/or dirty. Perhaps it has a definite lifespan and at around $25 should be replaced after about 250K miles or so.

And yes, if you have a vacuum leak, your cruise control won't work.

It's a sintered bronze-looking material, and since it's sintered, it does eventually fill up with those tiny bits of crap floating around in the vacuum system.

@Malleus no need for Vin # one is with 1 connection the other is with 2 connections LOL

...and a few small bits of carbon are enough to stop the VSV from functioning...going on my Christmas parts list now.
