...and a few small bits of carbon are enough to stop the VSV from functioning...going on my Christmas parts list now.

Didnt know this was VSV related! I have been ignoring a VSV code for 3 years (new VSV valved installed too) just resetting the CEL. I did check the one on mine, no air could pass. Blew some brake cleaner through from both sides, removed a lot of junk. Compressed air dry and it flows nicely. Hope this is it.
