hello guys,

New guy here, i just bought my 2017 blizzard pearl LC 2 weeks ago, my first Toyota since my S/C'd 2001 tacoma 4 door.

Im a car guy, and ive always wanted a LC, i have owned a GX460, Range rover, Tahoe, suburban and tons of jeeps. I sold my 2015 Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 Turbo diesel for the LC, i still have a 2015 Wrangler rubicon on 37's that's my hardcore off road toy.

Question!

Im a big guy (6'4 285 lbs, and im torso tall) and headroom is tight- what can be done to buy me as close to and inch as possible? Losing a few Lbs would be a great solution, but what can i do to get some more headroom?

It seems that there is at least 1/2" to possibly 3/4' in the headliner that could be cut and just replace with factory headliner covering minus the padding- that's surgery though, and i wanted to see if there are any other tricks that can be used?

Ive modified other cars (like my CTSV by flipping the seat rails) and it bought me 3/4"...

But the base of the seat looks pretty tight, so im going to ask you guys if there are any thoughts.

Thanks in advance, this forum has been fun to watch and learn from so far, not as much attitude as the Jeep forums!

Sorry I can't help myself:

I assume you've already lowered the seat back as low as it will go...? I'm 6-3, but have the torso of a 6'5" guy and it works for me. I lower the back all the way and raise the front tilt up all the way, and it's a good combo.

I have the seat as low as possible, and just a bit of tilt to help. Im used to sitting more upright, so the lean ( in the seat back) required isn't ideal (but not horrible)

It seems the passenger side sits a bit lower, i need to measure that and see.. i may cut some of the padding out of the headliner, that may be just enough, b ut i was hoping for a easier solution.

You're a brave and bold man if you'd carve up the headliner on your $80,000 Land Cruiser!

I salute you.

:)

Then you would not have wanted to see what i did to the Recaro seats in my CTSV to get more headroom.. that was big time surgery

Thanks

I found that I can comfortably sit a bit closer (bend your legs a bit more) and then tilt back more. This way you're arms are more comfortably within reach (the steering wheel doesn't push out far enough) of the wheel, even if tilted a bit more than you're used to. Give it a try. I'm now super comfortable even after 6k mile trips.

@Cruuzer contact Brian Jowett @bjowett and see what he's done for driver comfort. I know he was looking into lowering the seat brackets, or modding in seats from other high end Toyota/lexus vehicles that are more sporty and maybe less foam in @$$ end.

Hey @Cruuzer - if you find an answer, could you please post it here? I'm about 6'6" also and very close to the headliner, and an extra 1/2" (if fairly easy to obtain) would be a Good Thing.

For a few hundred benji;s, you could find a good mobile upholstery guy, and have him change out your seat foam to a thinner high density foam and then recover with your same leather. Should get net you a couple of inches and sounds like that is all you need. I know a guy local in Phoenix and since you are in SD, just drive over for a nice 115F summer day and he could probably turn it around. PM me if you want contact details. He reworked new foam for my FJ60, best mod ever! .....for a 60 at least :)

Thanks guys,

My first choice is non surgery options (i.e. Seat tracks), second will probably be havein the headliner padding removed and recovered, last would be the seat foam.

But all of these are good ideas and i will explore then and write up whatever i do and share the results here
