Hi Everyone! I just purchased a '95 FJ80 (my second 80) and the antenna is broken. I was just planning to replace it with a whip antenna, but can't figure out how to get the power unit out and what I need to remove on order to do the swap. I apologize in advance if this is posted elsewhere but I couldn't find it. Thanks everyone!

Not to be a bearer of bad news as I LOVE that link and used it to replace the antenna on my '97 80 but, at the top is this "note"

Note: This applies to LX450s and late '96 and on Land Cruisers only.

That said, if the OP is replacing the antenna and motor entirely the link might still be of use in removing the whole shebang as I believe the difference between older 80s and newer 80s is more in how the cable attaches to the motor than anything else.

Gmoney, good luck with the swap. as I understand it fishing the antenna cable into the cab is a real biatch. From threads I've read you would be well served (if you do this) to attach the new cable to the old cable (in a very secure fashion) and use the old cable to pull the new into the cab.

Also, I'd search more on antennas as I know there have been some posts on aftermarket antennas including some good and bad reviews regarding reception.

On my 1994 LC it was easy to remove the whole assembly. Three bolts plus the weird nut that sits on the fender.

I found there's more than enough room to manoeuvre the assembly out of the truck, but I've seen a few posts where people had trouble. Maybe I just lucked-out?

Gmoney, depending on what's broken in your antenna unit, you might be able to just fix it with a replacement mast from Toyota.

What tends to happen is the mast gets broken or stuck, and the inner cable can't handle the extra resistance. It separates from the mast and retracts into the drum.

You can buy a replacement mast/cable/drum assembly from Toyota. My dealer was out of the Land Cruiser ones, so I followed Semlin's post and used the Camry kit, which works fine.

I Re/re'd my antenna for under $30 and now it's as good as new.

If your motor is no good, however, that's another story. It's worth testing, though.

Thanks everyone!

Well, mission accomplished - sort of. I have a friend that is more mechanically inclined than I am and he helped me get the whip antenna installed. I appreciate everyone's help and thanks for taking it easy on the rookie. I'm sure I'll be asking for more advice down the road. Happy Thanksgiving!

How's the reception? My power antenna got broken, the I installed the new (used) one incorrectly, so I'm like for a simple, inexpensive fix.

Hello,
I have an early 96 fj80 and cannot seem to get the motor out, the top piece on the fender is holding it from coming down. I have removed the outer gromet and gold ring but there is still the hard piece that conforms to the fender that I can't seem to remove. I am new to the forum and it may be posted somewhere, but I can't find it. Thanks in advance.
