Gonna POR 15 my axles tomorrow. Hope everything goes well. Anybody use this stuff before?

Yeah, the key to POR15 is following the directions for prep and taking more time prepping than painting. Next, protect yourself: POR 15 will not come off you, so wear long sleeves and gloves, use small jars or cans to keep the rest from activating with the moisture in the air too quickly (ruining the batch) and wear respiratory protection with chemical vapor cartridges, (or set up a fan behind you so it pushes the air away from your breathing zone-this is not a pink panty deal, exposure can cause a really bad medical issue in the future). Some guys in the rust zone say that POR15 can hide rust and cause worse damage behind the coating, I don't have any experience with that and have used it on 2 vehicles successfully, but other mudders may have some thoughts to add.

Thanks Irowe. I actually did my front axle last night outside. I didnt wear any respirator but did wear gloves. I just painted right out of the can which may have been a bad idea but didnt have anything else to put it in. i made sure to mask off the edges so no POR got in the grooves of the can. My front axle turned out great but will painting straight out of the can ruin my POR?

Any one here ever put on custom shock mounts in the rear? Was thinking about mounting them on top of the axle but wanted to hear some opinions first. Thanks!

Haven't posted progress in a while. Been outta money but I did get my axles and leaf springs POR-15ed and lookin pretty sexy.

Not much new to report lately but did go up to grass valley today and picked up my power steering plates from Luke at 4x4 labs. First time meeting the guy and let me say, awesome dude! Very helpful and nice. He saved me some money today and down the road. Answered all my questions and put everything in context so it was crystal clear. Cant wait to get to work on it now!

Here is some pictures of me that my dad took when we were taking my tub off. Pretty cool if ya ask me.

Got my 4x4 labs plates all ready to go, along with my saginaw box. I wanted to know how to tell the difference between the 3.25 turn and the 4.5 turn radius? Also am i using the right pitman arm? Its not like anyone reads this thread anyway but im hoping to get someone to help me out. Thanks

No specific outward signs of steering ratio on the boxes that I know of. It's as simple as counting the number of turns the input shaft will spin from lock to lock.

Nothing to offer on the pitman arm. Looks good, but the center to center distance, drop and taper for the tie rod factors decide if it's right for your application.

.........you are being watched (read):D.........

Ok guys i hope you all read this post because i need some help. I need to know how or the best way to check my height and forward/back of my engine, tranny and t-case. Im running a sbc to a sm420 to a 3 spd t-case. i want my block as far forward as possible but have enough room to shift easily. Also im not sure how high up i need everything to sit. That being said i dont exactly know if the way everything was set up prior to me taking it apart was the correct height. if anyone has this same setup please help me out. I dont want my tranny and t-case to be to low or to high. Please help! Thanks!!

Finally got my 4x4 labs power steering plates COMPLETELY done!!:cheers::cheers:

Before i was having my dad do my welding for me but he isn't gonna be around forever so I decided it was time i learn. As you can see the welds look as if a bird flew over and took a massive **** on my frame but they're strong and will hold well. Anyways I'm still hoping for some advice on my previous post so please help. Next up is painting the frame.....cant wait
