Just had the water pump replaced, and it is seeping. Reading the forums, it seems that maybe they didn't seal the backing plate, but on one of the posts, it mentions that one of the water pump bolts has to be sealed as it goes through the water jacket in the block. Before I strip it down, I thought I would remove and seal the bolt to see if that would work as its easier than tearing it down. which bolt has to be sealed?

You need a book. The Chilton's is better than nothing. Lots of free manuals to download here

When asking for help year/model/market speeds up a good answer.

A sheet of gasket paper is cheap and you can make a new gasket easy enough. Pull the pump, seal the back plate and put goop on the bolt and you are done - fix it right the first time is better that fixing it half assed several times - trail repairs excluded.

I like permatex aviation B sealant non-drying. I put on any fiber type gasket wet - as in I soak it it warm water for about 15 minutes to 1/2 hour - this softens it up so the high spots can sink in. Use a torque wrench in pattern. I almost always do it by 1/3. After a heat cycle I check at 100% - after several heat cycles check them again at 100%

I think it the lower bolt on the right that gets the sealant. You can identify the correct bolt because its not going into a blind hole - stick a piece of wire in the hole - if the wire stops quickly its not the hole.
