I so wanted to build one but I really wanted to get (a lot of)utility out of it as well. In fact Utility was probably more important on my needs. So I went with a 4wide, 6long, 4.5ft tall cargo. Had the thing a little over 2 months and already put 300 miles on it and concidering I only run through one tank of gas on my truck a month...I'm using the hell out of it.
Don't have the nice set up kitchen but I can load larger items easily.
Aluminum is not as pricey as you would think. I am skinning mine in .032 Mill finish and it is around $30 (might be a little more now) for a 4x8 sheet at www.wrisco.com
