Just got back from 3 nights of camping with the 4runner. Little update.
I put a cheapo ebay intake on it a few months ago and the report is its a lot louder with no noticeable gains until you hit the freeway. Definitely a big difference when the truck is loaded to the roof with stuff. I'm able to pull Blackwell Hill in 5th at 65mph. Whereas before I was in 4th doing 55mph.
Speaking of loaded with stuff I may need some airbags for the back on big trips....
We hit Siskiyou Lake outside of Shasta City with the kids which they loved! Nice little campground and the lake was awesome. I have pics of it on another camera but I highly recommend it for some low key kid friendly camping. Nice beach, 10mph lake with a huge water park area for the kids. Also noteable was the fact that there was a place to get beers 50 yards up the beach and you could drink them on the beach. After that we hit all backroads to the coast and it was gorgeous until we heard the banjo's fire up in Cecilville. I wouldn't recommend going there unless you're packin'!
Found some snow to wheel on!
Scenic vistas right near the PCT.
A mining claim with a gigantic water hole.
This little stretch was off Hwy 96 called Bald Hill Rd. Very pretty area and a nice direct route to the coast instead of going all the way down to Eureka.
4runner did great, averaged 18 MPG. Tore a front CV boot at some point. Not sure if its salvageable or not yet. Desperately needs new shocks to put up with the excessive loads placed on it. It floated down the road really bad. Fun trip though. We had some projectile vomitting out the rear window due to a car sick kid and one of the twisti-est roads I've ever been on called Callahan/Cecilville Road. We tried to find a camping spot on the coast only to have everything full due to 4th of July camping. We ended up in an RV park the last day. Good times!
