BlueCruiser84
SILVER Star
Hello all,
I've been a longtime cruiserhead and with a baby on the way I sold my FJ cruiser to start the hunt for something with 4 doors. We drove 4runners and a couple GX470s and decided the GX was just too plush to pass up. I hope that luxury doesnt come back to bite us in the ass.
Looked for about 3 weeks and found a local, 2004 GX470 in a Pearl white color. Non-nav, non-KDSS, 1 owner, 180k miles, almost friggn' spotless - though my frame of reference is different than most.
Just had timing belt/waterpump, new brake booster/ABS/hydro unit, new front pads/rotors, new radiator, new dash, plugs, trans flush, two O2 sensors, and 4 TPMS sensors. The owner sold it to a local shop after all that work was done because she didn't trust it anymore... seems like she could have saved some money if she stopped trusting it before fixing all that stuff! Total bill was about $6000. I picked it up for 11k so I felt ok about the deal.
Only issue is a crack in the DS mirror, a leaking 4wd actuator O-ring, and an intermittent CEL for catalyst below efficiency.
Brought it home and changed FR/RR diff fluid, Trasnfer case fluid, and PS fluid. Oil change and filter is next and then have the old girl detailed.
Plans are to use the GX for family/dog hauling on longer trips and repair whatever needs repairing for the first 6 months/year. Hopefully the airbags will hold out for another year at which point I would like to do a coil swap with a very mild ~2" lift. These things look like minivans in stock trim.
My old lady is very happy with the purchase. Seems that she thinks this is HER vehicle? It didn't feel like her vehicle when I was crawling around underneath it for 6 hours last night...
The White Trash (80 series) is sizing up the new addition. I always think 80s are big... until they are side-by-side with a newer vehicle. Nevermind the weeds in the driveway!!
