Hi, I'm new to the site and a first time Cruiser owner. Just picked up a 1988 FJ62 / 111k miles / all original as far as I can tell. Will be doing an engine swap next year, but planning now. Would love to hear about any 2UZ swaps (or similar Toyota powerplant swaps). Also any resources for engine mounts for 2UZ engine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

Welcome!

People will be demanding pics of your rig, so might as well cough some up sooner than later.

2UZ swaps have been discussed in a number of threads on this forum. It's not a straightforward swap. Try doing a search here, or do a Google search which will most likely end up here.

A much more common swap for the FJ62 is an H55F 5-speed. People seem to enjoy the 3FE a lot more with the manual gearbox behind it, and it can be done for a fraction of the price of a full engine swap.

Thank you for that. I have thought about converting to a manual transmission. The goal is to have a rig that is capable of towing a smallish camper trailer for weekend trips and such. Not feeling like my 3FE is up to the task.

Welcome, swap wise lots have been done. Most seem to go LS for simplicity, but there are lots of cool diesel swaps done also. I think Trail Tailor is working on a V8 swap from a Tundra too

How straightforward is the H55F swap from an automatic trans? Will I need an adapter ?

Thank you for that. I will look at their v8 swap.

your best and most straight-forward course of action will be an LS swap with an H55. It's been done lots before, tons of available swap parts, kits, and guidance/tips.
