Those driveway fail's are great, you've got to train a rig to do that.:D
That's for sure! He's a Lucky Dog. I thought I was lucky when my (welded) double steering arm fell off while parked at a doctor's office. $75 tow got that one home. John

"Thanks Murf, it has 211k miles, it will be a work in progress for a while. Mechanically it appears to be relatively well maintained. Otherwise, it was owned by a kid, the stereo has been jacked, the windshield cracked and needs a good cleaning and general TLC. It should make a good, cheap second vehicle.:grinpimp: "
Well Maintained except it won’t start, the starter is shot, the windshield is cracked, the stereo is ripped out, the timing belt has less teeth than an Alabama couple:hillbilly:, and it’s dirty. Other than that it’s well maintained!!
I’m going to use that when I sell my 88 PU, “The body is showroom new except the driver fender is a primer replacement, the bed is rusted out to the point you can see through both sides of the bed, there are only a couple of scratches per inch that run from the front of the truck to the tail gate. Other than that she's a cherry!”:D

Ahh....the key word there would be mechanically, as in, motor and drive train is in fairly good condition considering its age.:meh:

What was the trick to get the starter out? Did you end up pulling the exhaust?

Jacked up the motor, gave me just enough room. Its funny, I read 3 or 4 write ups on starter removal and none of them jacked up the motor. It made it much easier.

Taco Update?

(I'm on the edge of my seat here)

Sadly I'm not the best mechanic.:o I couldn't figure it out for a while. The timing is way out, to far for the engine to have any chance of running, but the belt was tight and still had all its teeth. Didn't make any sense. Yesterday, I marked the belt and ran it around. It skipped one or two teeth per revolution. It appears one of the idlers is bound up and creating enough slack to allow it to skip.

I got the garage reorganized last weekend so it's coming inside so I can open it up. Unfortunately, I'm suspecting I need a head gasket, so I may be in for more work when the timing belt is done.

give me $100, and i'll tow it out of your driveway for ya!

First think I would do is wash and wax it and look at it for a month until it cools down.:D

What makes you suspect it needs a head gasket?

That's why it's going inside. The garage is cooled, not well but it stays under 90.

When cranking it over to check the timing belt, I noticed coolant that appears to be seeping out of the exhaust flange below the collector. The last time it started showing up from the flange in front of the cat. I'm hoping it's an external leak but I'm not seeing any water trails. I fear that coolant is seeping into one of the cylinders and being pushed out when I turn over the engine. It'll be tough to know for sure until the timing belt is in and I can start the engine.
