From all I've read about DD Nav units in 80's, the consensus is don't waster your time/money with the navigation. It's too far down and away to be used safely and rather difficult to see if it's sunny. Due to reading this over and over again I went with the Kenwood 372BT. Everything I need minus Nav.

Agreed. Navigation needs to be near eye level where I don't need to constantly look down and away from the road. I use Google maps on my iPhone and it's by far the best navigation I've ever used.

And in CA I can now hold my phone in my hand so long as I'm looking at navigation. Thanks CA Supreme Court :flipoff2:

How about this Mercedes factory unit? Is that too low too?

so since ya'll are doing the leg work, I'll be lazy and ask- is there a head unit that lets you upload your MP3's directly on/in to it? My current is an Alpine with a wire for the MP3 player, but I'd rather load them. I don't think I want an Android in dash. It's a tinfoil hat thing.

Unless it's the moonshine run or corn harvesting.

Traffic during harvest time is no joke. I almost got ditched a couple weekends ago driving on the B level roads. A tractor didn't get over and I caught a rut. It was SKETCHY. However, I don't think that road even exists on the Google...

Yes, for me it is. Doesn't make sense to be looking down at the passenger floorboard to see where you need to be going.

I use my navigation everyday, but I am not constantly looking at it to see where I'm going. I get the general idea where to turn. Voice command also helps a lot too. It's like having a copilot, or a wife, or somebody you really hate telling you which way to turn.

Does it support cameras?

what do these pumpkin android radios look like?

++1. The unit is too low, even for switching radio stations. Then the glare from the passenger seat.

I have kids so the DVD is a definite need. But for navigation I just get audio thru BT. I don't look at map. Phone or head unit.

Yep. Pioneer 4100NEX - I just bought it. Has an SD card slot and 2 USB connections. Runs 2 cameras, plays cd/dvd/sat radio/Ipod or Android/Apple Carplay/App Radio/etc. etc..

Not cheap - but i'm quite happy with it.

I like the Pioneer 4100NEX, unsure if you can do 2 cameras though. Any suggestions on camera?

I have 2 of the esky 170-08s - don't have any long term review for you. First impressions are pretty nice though.

I don't understand why anyone would spend money for double din Nav unit. For the price you can get a decent single Din deck and an iPad! I went with a Sony deck because at the time it had the "nicest" feeling volume knob and overall layout of any of the options in my price point.

I use Google (for navigation) or Waze (speed trap avoidance) on my phone and when the kids are in the car for long trips we use the iPad for movies.

I agree. If there was an easy way to incorporate an iPad to a Bluetooth system I would be more inclined to go that way. Unfortunately there are no easy mounts that include the lightning adapter, and none that integrate with a head unit easily from what I have seen. I prefer motion–X GPS. And otherwise prefer Google Maps.

Soundman makes a decent holder but it's not "right". User on here also makes one but it encompasses too much of the center consul. Another option was to use the RAM mount and I am still considering that.

Ideally I would use in iPad Pro and with it an audio output to an amplifier.
