It's a go!

The 20th it is. Let's get an early start... say 8am, I've got a going away party for a friend that night at 6pm so I will need to be done by then but we should be fine unless we run into serious problems. mobydick I would say you should count on breakfast and lunch for everyone. Breakfast burritos and maybe a pizza...beverages wouldn't hurt either ?? We should plan getting your cruiser over here either Thursday night or Friday night so we don't keep everyone waiting. I would say attempt to drive it and I can come meet you with the trailer or tow strap if it doesn't make it. My address is 1089 Brookdale ave, Medford 97504. Also everyone should bring basic tools so we aren't all trying to use the same socket... ie sockets/wrenches/extensions...

Sounds like a plan. You guys will have to PM me or post up with your favorite burrito stuffings, along with pizza toppings and your beverage of preference. I will stay in touch and check in here every night for any changes/adjustments to your plans. I'm no mechanic- that's why I was hunting for someone to pay to do the job. Those of you who have done something like this before should think about some of the "minor details/ extra parts that I may need to be prepared to pick up. By the way, where do most of you get your parts at?

I just shop at Schucks or Napa. You will need ATF... I read somewhere that its about 7qts, a gallon of gear oil for the tcase unless it is still full (it very well could be), and maybe some RTV in case we have to split the trans/tcase.

Also if anyone has another jack it would be nice to have two (or that transmission jack), and a second creeper. We'll have two guys under the truck for most of the time.

mobydick, I have a couple free hours this Sunday afternoon, I was thinking I could just bring the car trailer over and we could load up the 62 and the trans/tcase. My weekdays are hectic so it would be easiest to do it this Sunday instead of after work. Whadyasay?

Copy that, sounds like a good idea. Hopefully if my trip Saturday goes smoothly By Sunday I'll have it cleaned out(my wife's been using it for a storage unit). Now, when i get back Saturday I'll have the new Tranny in the back of my wife's van. Do you want me to transfer it to the back of the cruiser??

I have to tell you guys our family has taken a beating the past 3 years- Wife's cancer, son's diabetes nearly Killed him, we're losing our home in So-Cal, Lost my 86 Toyota extra cab 4x4 to the repo guys, etc. etc. etc. This meeting you all and your offer of help is going in the "good things" column and nothing will make me happier then driving my rig around town again. Thanks, Chris.

I'm a 51 year old father of 6 with only 2 kids left in the house with us. One of them, my 17 year old son will be with us to help with the work. I think we'll have fun.

Rear main seal for sure, I would definitely recommend a basic refresh on the t-case as well, seals on the fore and aft out puts, pilot bearing if automatics have those, there is a paper gasket on the t-case that may effect the tolerances on the bearings as well and of course gear oil for the t-case. This isn't all necessary if money is tight as you may be able to leave the t-case attatched. I have never pulled an automatic out of a rig... sorry. Seats will come out, console and front carpet too..

I have a floor tranny jack but am not sure what is going on that weekend. I also have a haynes manual that covers the 62 but its only OK.

i have a tranny jack (scissor style) and also a jack adapter for a regular floor jack.
i plan on coming out.

I also have a couple of small floor jacks, a couple jackstands, Very basic tools and a Toyota manual(which I just noticed says 1990 on it- mine is an 89). Maybe when we get the cruiser over to Jesse's this wekend we can sit down and put a list together on what I should go get. Don't some of those bearings and seals have to come from Toyota?? What about torque converter? Isn't that a key component in a good running tranny? The guy I'm getting the tranny from is named Brian and lives in Sherwood and his Mud Handle is landcruiderman. Anyone have past experiences buying from him? His description is that the unit came out of a good running 62 which he parted out awhile back. The tranny has been sitting in storage for about 3 years, he kept wanting to use it but now money is tight and he'll sell it. His word is that the cruiser had 154K on it and that is all I know. I know one indication of trouble is a worn output shaft. Well I wouldn't know worn out from fairly new one. Any advise is appreciated. Too bad one of you club members isn't a tranny rebuilder- I'd just pay to have it rebuilt like new. Anyhow, thats my nightly checkin with the club. I'll check for responses before lights out, Later!:)

BTW, still waiting for your beverage choices. I am a retired proffessional drinker. I have not bought beer in over 10 years. What does a case of beer cost these days? The burritos for breakfast can be sausage and eggs with cheese of I can make some chorrizo and eggs if you'd like- or both. I'll run later and pick up some pizza so it will be hot. Let me know your poison, I think a case per person should do it? You can't get blitzed and install the thing backwards!

B-Burritos - Sausag/Egg/Chesse sounds good to me :)

Case of Coors should be fine, we got work to do! :)

Brunos or Little ceasars is close by, we can just make a pizza run when ready :)

On the tech side I'm not sure, no experience just there to help however I can.

I don't drink, so you can't buy me with beer..... I will however make up for it in Pizza consumption :D Some orange or apple juice sounds good to me, might go better with breakfast for anyone who has a problem drinking before 9 a.m. (Not likely....)

X2 what Retro said on the burritos

This sunday I should able to swing by depending on what time to help load the truck up and say hi. Let me/us know when.

OK, tomorrow is clean out the Cruiser day! And I'm just as useless when it comes to Tranny's. I wouldn't know the first thing. But I can turn a wrench if you show me and if I remember- lefty-loosy righty-tighty! :p

OK, so, no news is good news?? I guess. I checked with Brian and he is expecting me to pick it up Saturday. I'm gonna have my kids with me and we've never seen Portland. Anything cool there to see? is it like L.A., in which case I'll just turn around and come home.

How many can I expect for Sunday?

Portland is a cool town. Downtown is nice. Your kids would enjoy OMSI, and if you have time (40min drive outside) multnomah falls is pretty cool.

Chad (creepersleeper) pres of cascade cruisers lives up there and is cruiserhead. You could PM him as well.

Im in for wrenching.

Yep, this Sunday. My plans are to wake her up and get her over to the Albertsons parking lot by 11:00 AM. Just look for the white cruiser with a roof rack- shouldn't be hard to find. ;)

Battery has pooped out from sitting, usually after I jump it and let it run for 10-15 minutes I can pull the cables off and it runs on it's own. Probably have to put a battery on my need to buy list. Unless you guys think the Red-top will recharge once we start putting some time on it?
