Being a college student, I'm always looking for the biggest bang for my buck. I was shopping around got a roof basket when I found the Sting Ray. The cost of this basket was fairly cheap compared to the Thule and other top name brands. I will post pics of installment this afternoon!

Here are the pictures!

Thanks for the advice, I'll keep in mind. I just plan on little outdoor accessories like chairs and what not

Agreed with corbet.

Did the rack come with any other mounting hardware? I have been looking at these (and the Rola) and Im wondering how they would work with the round yakima load bars.

Is this a two piece rack? Wha tdo you intend to use it for?

good looking rig by the way!

Is it on backwards? Where did you get it?

I like it. Not too much but just enough.

No, this kit only came with the U-bolts. Check out Low Profile Roof Cargo Rack - The Stingray you can see that the U-bolt has that notch in the middle which looks like it will grasp the round cross bar pretty well. It is a 2-piece rack, it splits right in the middle hamburger style and is secured by 2 screws on the outermost bars. I bought it for the looks, camping chairs, and other outdoor accessories. It is labeled up to 150 lbs, but dont think the OEM crossbars could handle that.

Is it on backwards? Where did you get it?

No, the front and back are identical. discountramps.com

Thanks, I like it too, seems like just the right size.

Looks just like a Yakima rack.

I agree but for 1/5 the price!

I have something similar I will agree it is 1/5 the price but it is also only able to carry 1/5 the load of a good rack also. I am looking to take my already aluminum rack that mounts like this one and put gutter mounts on and my own cross bars. Then that way if rack is still not tough enough I can fab my own with my previous gutter mounts. I mounted to factory roof rack and I have to be real careful with what I put up there.

yeah, that would be ideal but I just don't have the money right now

Quick-N-Easy Car Top Racks - Set at NRSweb.com
here is what I found fairly cheap I have also found some almost double this a set, only bad thing is that it seems that it would lift the rack kinda far off the top of the roof, but it seems that almost all of them are like that. Also like the ride almost same setup, sorry to hijack but how do you like your km2's do they wear good? Im getting ready to buy tires and its between them the km2, nitto trail grappler or good year mtr

That set is one of the cheaper gutter mounts that I have seen as well. Regarding the height of the mount, I've seen ones that varied in size such as 4"-6" but I can't recall the prices on those. Hah, thanks! It's no problem, IMHO, I like them a lot because they are aggressive looking, perform well for me, and I like the sound of them on the road, unlike the Nitto Mud Grapplers; those suckers are LOUD. I have little over 3k miles on them and they seem to wear fine. I have noticed that they scar up really easily. What size tire do you run because I heard Nitto doesn't make the 35s trail grapplers for a 16 in. rim. As for the MTRs, those are aggressive too and I have heard that they are really quiet compared to other mud tires. IMO, you really can't go wrong with either of those choices as those were my top choices too!

They make goodyear and the nitto in 315/70/17 which is only a half inch different from a 35 if I went BFgoodrich I would have to get the 35's. In the 315 and 35 you are only talking gaining a quarter inch ground clearence so there wouldnt be noticable difference IMO. I dont like the price for the goodyears but I think thats what Im going for as soon as I get funds.

So far I have found them for 1515.00 out the door to my door step. then have to get mounted and balanced. The 17's is the part makin it tough on me but I got factory aluminum fj cruiser wheels for free there just 17's. they are flash though! Yea I do like that rack too I like it better than the one I got, The one I got only cost me a cool $100 shipped to me so it was nice and cheap. Its like your basically looks and light duty stuff.

I love the look of the fj cruiser wheels, great find!

That rack looks nice! I may have to get myself one! Have you seen looked into any sort of hi lift mounts for it?
