Seems like my earlier "2nd battery - parts list" post may have been an omen...

Has anyone experienced the 'auto off' function of the headlights (when exiting the vehicle) not working and, if so, did you isolate the problem.

Only thing I can think that I did differently (after the earlier fire) was this: when re-installing the auxiliary lighting grounds, I used the same ground point occupied by the OEM headlight harness (rather than direct to battery (-) or rather than a different ground point in the DS fender well). Could this have caused the headlight auto-off to fail, or cause them to come back on spontaneously after I'm out of the truck?

Does your driver's door pin switch seem to be working ok? Since that triggers the lts. off function.

Yep..that was the first thing I checked after I got it started this morning. Seems to be OK.

At least my CEL isn't lit anymore ....for a little while, anyway....

hmm.... anybody know where the trigger wire runs to, past the drivers pin swich? a relay? ecm? some other control module?

There is a relay or some type of electrical that has a wire coming of the ignition switch. I only know this as I am trying to remedy my key buzzer staying on after the key is removed - also the headlights are not shutting off. Nelson

Dangit-----it did it again........just under a month since I first posted the problem.

Light switch left on last nite, key off (removed), got up this morning, mostly-dead battery as evidenced by barely-lit headlights.

Previously, I'd totally disconnected aux fuse block and all other non-oem electrical stuff, assuming this problem was something I'd added. Had also replaced DS door switch. At this point, I'm wondering if it could be faulty IGN switch or headlight switch...

....any other opinion before I take her down to the auto electric place to troubleshoot it?

turn off hte lights when you shut it down.........:flipoff2:
Sorry had to say it, your spoiled my truck has no auto off feature.
Dave

:-) I deserved that one, Dave.......surprised I got away without it this long.

Guess I'll let this thread die....
