I have recently bought a one owner 99 with 246k miles. While the truck has good service records and is very solid, the one owner was clearly a smoker.

I am looking for some guidance to help alleviate the stench from within. I have had good luck in the past ridding a couple Jeep Cherokee and Comanche's interior of smoke by removing and washing the seats, replacing the headliner and power washing the carpet.

Is there any recommended product to clean the leather seats? While the seats are not in great shape, the leather is not split. I need to educate myself about leather as this is the first vehicle I've owned that has leather. I'd like to pull the seats and completely clean the carpet as well. Can the carpet be pulled easily or would I be better off to clean the carpet in the truck with a carpet cleaner? I also need to clean the headliner. Is it easily dropped or is it something that is best to remain in the truck to prevent damage. Any recommendations for products to clean it?

Two of the power windows are real slow. Is there anything that can be lubricated or is the motor on the way out?

I am sure I'll have more questions as I dig into the truck. Thanks!

Do all the regular cleaning steps and afterwards get a stable bowl and put distilled white vinegar in it and leave it in the car for a few days. Keep windows up and car in sun. It will evaporate, permeating the interior. Will smell like vinegar, but that will dissipate too. If the smell returns, repeat. Serious detailers may use an ozone generator to do the job quicker, but a round or two with vinegar has always worked for me.

Get an ozone machine in it at a cleaning shop, dealer, or see if a water remediation company will rent you one.

Looks like you can buy pretty reasonable online too.

The previous owner of my 100 was a smoker. I tried the ozone machine (at the dealer) and every product on the market. Nothing worked.
Then I put a bowl of white vinegar in it for several hours. Did that three times over a few day period. No more smoke smell.

Note: DO NOT clean the headliner. It's glued to a cardboard backing... it'll separate and droop
