How about the advice to search, read, and research on his own before asking dumb questions?

How 'bout not being a dick? Instead, try this approach...

"Hey, welcome to club! This forum is a HUGE resource - just about everything you're wondering about your 100 is a search away..."

There, that wasn't so hard was it ;)

^ you dont understand, no-class has never been new at anything. EVER. He already has modded his 300 series to the max. Welcome OP. OP=original poster for the new guy. Search away, and enjoy.

Cool story.

Welcome!

Removing the running boards and getting some good tires are good advice. You really don't need too much beyond stock to either really enjoy yourself, or really get yourself into areas you never intended/should have gone, and now need to get back out of:

  1. Don't wheel alone!
  2. Get Bill Burke's "Getting Unstuck DVD".
  3. Get solid (REAL!) recovery points bolted on your truck, don't use the front D bracket or tie-down hook as recovery points, they're not rated or intended for that.
  4. Get at least a couple good WLL-rated shackles: Van Beest "Green Pins" or Columbus McKinnon. Get the largest that will fit your recovery points, probably a 7/8" pin.
  5. Get at least a snatch strap.
  6. Did I mention don't wheel alone? Hook up with people on here, Expedition Portal regional sub-forums, or by asking around these forums for good local groups.

Welcome!

There are plenty of folks here off roading nearly stock 100's. Wrap some All Terrains (e.g. BFG AT KO, Nitto Terra Grappler, Goodyear Duratrac) around a set of OEM 16" or 18" wheels, remove the running boards and install your favorite brand and style of slider, and call it a day.

Good luck with the build!

After researching some more and reading everyone's advice I want to get a 2.5'' lift kit and 18'' wheels. But I'm not sure which lift kit to buy. Any suggestions? I was looking at slee's medium load 2.5'' kit which is about as pricy as I can go for my budget. But also not sure how much I would have to pay to get it installed..

Depending on whether or not you plan to run heavier front and/or rear bumpers, sliders, etc., you may not need a full kit. You can get 1.5" to 2" of lift in front by simply adjusting the stock torsion bars. In the rear, and with no additional weight, the OME 865 (available from Slee) will give you about the same amount of lift (I saw 2" of lift with 865's, YMMV). Since you've only changed the rear spring rate (and only by a little, relatively speaking) the stock shocks can handle everything. If you want to improve the ride, you could install a set of Bilstein HD's for $75 a corner.

+ 1.5" - 2" front (adjust stock torsion bars) $0
+ 1.5" - 2" rear (OME 865) $169 plus shipping
Firestone Lifetime Alignment $149-$169

Above nets you between 1.5" and 2" of lift for less than $350. Add 4 Bilsteins for another $300 plus shipping. The torsion bar adjustment, springs and shocks you can do yourself (see the FAQ sticky).
