Hello all! I stumbled upon this forum the other day while looking stuff up about my new toy. I bought a 79 FJ40 off a guy in New Zealand for $3,000.00 and am in the process of having it shipped to the states. He says it has no rust and runs like a top. Looks like there is slight surface rust under the hood but other than that it looks pretty clean. What suggestions do you guys have for someone that is new to Landcruisers? If it has no rust and runs good the only things I really have planned is new tires, painting the rims black, and maybe a 4" lift. Also adding PS. Is there certain things I should pay special attention to?

Welcome.

Nice Land Cruiser.

Read, read, read.

There is a lot of information out here. Hit the Frequently Asked Questions section stuck in the group of topics at the top of this 40 section forum.

Search works great as well.

See if the person that you are purchasing this truck from can find you a right hand drive power steering gear, as they do not really exist here in the USA.

Have fun.

Nice truck!

You might check out the rear sill area - looks like someone did some repair work down under.

Let me know if you want to sell your stock springs in future when you do the lift and good luck.

Welcome and you have a very, very nice 40 there.

wow that's a really clean rig and the price was really good too.

The family and I are headed to Fort Riley in Kansas next week. After being at Fort Stewart in Georgia I guess the Army decided it was time to move me. Being from Oklahoma I know what the weather is going to be like in Kansas but don't know much about trails around there. Anyone been up and around the Fort Riley area?

Welcome

Very nice, very clean. I'd be afraid to take it out and use it.;)
