Greetings. Excellent info, I enjoy reading all of the posts. Very educational. I purchased this cruiser a year ago, but really didn't drive it until the past couple of months. It has 157,000 miles.

I paid 2k for the Cruiser, and put about another $1500 into it making it NYC driveable. I absolutely love it. I commute from Long Island to Manhattan about 3 days a week. Really haven't had a problem. Just a few questions.

Choke cable is broken. Should I have this repaired ? Starts fine now, after 3 pumps on the gas. But when winter comes....

For city driving, maybe some light off road, would you recommend OME ? Or just a stock replacement ?

Any repairs or upgrades I should look into considering the type of driving I'm doing ? I drive it all day when I take it, so it's not sitting in a garage. It's seeing Manhattan and all 5 boroughs.

Thanks

Welcome.

You can buy a new choke cable from dealership. Call cruiserdan at American Toyota for a discount on OEM parts. You want to make sure the choke cable did not break and is partly closed now. You can pull the air clearner and follow the cable and make sure the flaps are open all the way.

I would go with the OME set if you want to ever do any offroading. What kind of mileage are you getting? I would take the roof rack off if you are commuting in it and don't need it.

Welcome! You will like the OME even for daily driving; much more comfortable. You would enjoy a Tuffy console for piece of mind security and also because it provides a good place to support your elbow on those commutes.

The cable did break, that much I can tell. I'll do that.
Mileage ? hardly anything. maybe 9 mpg from whatever I was able to determine.
thanks for the response

Yeah. I would check your choke cable and do a tuneup. You should be higher than 12mpg.

OME is a kinda spendy upgrade unless your offroading really calls for it. Used stock springs can be had pretty cheap (from those upgrading to OME;))

Ditto NoCalFJ60. A rack, even an empty one, cuts your milage more than you might think.

Welcome!

interesting about the rack...it does make sense. i use it regularly, but i could probably do without for now.

Seafoam

Run a can of SEA FOAM through it. You can get it at any part store and the directions on the can are straight forward. Will remove deposits and may help with performance (mileage).

The OME lift is nice, but then you will want to get larger tires to match, and then you might lose a little more mpg, and then...... all your $ will be going to the 60. :p Nice condition on that 60 for a LI/NY rig.

You should definitely be seeing higher mpg than 9. I think I am getting a little better than 14 most of the time. I would start tracking the cause of that down and stick with the stock suspension and wheels for now.
Ditto on the roof rack. since I sold mine I get better mpg.
