Hello,

I purchased my first Land Cruiser FJ60 yesterday. I got it for a good price, but it is a little rough. It has a little rust around the fenders and a few other spots here and there.

I began a slight tune up as it is running pretty rough. I replaced the plugs today (good news, all the plugs were free of any oil and all appeared to be in the same condition) and it runs a little better. I have been looking for a new cap, rotor and coil, but the only cap I can find has aluminum contacts.....I want brass contacts. Anybody have any suggestions? I am also looking for a good set of plug wires.

I am also curious about timing. What are the specs on timing this beast?

Which manuals are the best and where can I purchase them?

Thanks for your help.

welcome to the addiction. The stock timing is set at 7deg btdc which is marked on the fly wheel with a little round b-b ball. There is a small window just above the starter that you can flip open to see it.

Contact cruiserdan for good prices on stock stuff...tell him you're a mud member.

Search FSM for the manual...you can download it for free.

Once again...welcome. Let's see some pics!

Welcome to MUD :flipoff2:

Use the 'search' button at the top of the page. It works great ;)

You'll want to look up FSM. ( field service manual )

Hey. I'll help you out. Here's a link where you can download the 2F engine manual and the 1984-1990 body and chassis manual. If you still have the smog equipment you should also get the 2F emissions manual. You can purchase it from Toyota for about $15. Search the string "toyota material distribution" and you should get some posts with the telephone number and the publication number for the emissions manual. Good Luck.

edit: OK, here's a post with publication information: https://forum.ih8mud.com/835133-post9.html

Welcome

You can't go wrong with the FSM and depending on if you need to pass smog regularly the emission FSM is must have.

Cruiserdan is the parts man here and ask for the ih8mud discount.

You can search just in the 60 forum which will give you access to more information then you might want. I would check all the small vacuum lines and replace them if they are old and cracking.

The search engine does NOT work great,, not sure why some like to point it out. It must be a "right of passage" to wade through threads that have nothing to do with your search. Thanks to all those that give links and advice to us newbies. I was searching for "fj60 third member" when i found this thread. It probably has more to do with improper tagging, but none the less the search engine is marginal. And yes i realize there is an advanced search. In most cases it returns nothing.

Yeah I guess the big problem when I was a newbie I didn't know the right names for things so couldn't not search and also at that time the archives were a lot smaller. Also try leaving the fj60 out of the search and just search the 60 forum. You can use google to search here too. Checking out the FAQ is a good start but questions are always welcomed. :)
