Hello everyone, I'm 29 and just got my hands on my dream car last week (coming from a an x sports car owner). so anyways today i noticed for the second time in a day that when i shift the car to P and turn off the engine, about 2-3 seconds later ( remember engine switched off) i hear one loud "clunk" sound from somewhere under the car...is this normal? it happens randomly and sounds horrible. I have very little knowledge of 4x4 and its the first SUV i have ever owned.

I have the 2011 3UR engine (5.7L). Meanwhile is it also electronically limited at 190KM/H? or does the car just get extremely heavy and takes a while to accelerate into 200 territory?

thanks for welcoming me

It's always good to post where you hail from. There are many subtle variants depending on what part of the world you live in.

That being said, it would not surprise me if this vehicle was limited worldwide at 118mph or 190kmh. I think you're the first person I've ever read about that has taken a Land Cruiser that fast. The tires you're sitting on are not rated for that kind of speed, be careful. Most truck tires have a max rating of 118mph/190kmh. Plus one good hard turn of the steering wheel at that speed and you're vehicle will flip over about 10 times. It's center of gravity is very high compared to a sports car. The 200 series has a nice engine for a big SUV, but the vehicles design and purpose is not meant for those speeds.

It's a cruiser, cruise! Keep a sports car in your quill for the days when you want high speed adrenaline. The Cruiser is for off-road adrenaline, or pampered around town use.

Thanks for your response, I do understand those speeds are extremely dangerous and reckless regardless SUV or not, but usually any car i purchase i end up doing one or two top speed runs throughout my entire time of ownership (no traffic in sight). Its a stupid habit just to get assurance that the car is mechanically fine/capable.

So anyone gets the clunk sound after shutting of the car? Is this something i should be worried about/ignorable?

Thanks!

I think mine does the same thing. I'm referring to what sounds like the transmission lock that is released by applying the brake when in park.....The mechanism that won't let you out of park until the brake is applied. I think it's normal.

With the car running, lightly pull the shifter over from park without pressing the brake, then press the brake to release the lock.....do you hear a similar noise?

I believe that it has been posted in the past that the 200 is limited to 130 mp/h which converts to about 210 km/h. I haven't been over 120 mp/h but the car is quite capable at that speed.
Can't help with the clunk issue.

So i press the brake while the shifter is out of its place and positioned all the way to the right (cant move it down unless brake is applied).

I did that, no sound is heard, it only does it while engine is OFF.

Regarding top speed, check this video of a 5.7 top speed run , it goes all the way to 240KM/H, mine kind wraps around 195/200 MAX

how can i tell if i am electronically limited or the car is under-performing please?

In the US, the 200 series is electronically limited to 135mph. When I first got mine back in 2008, I did one run at full speed and was able to get it up to 135mph. Surprisingly, the vehicle was actually quite stable, even if it was only a straight run. I wouldn't dare do it again after I've modified the suspension, AT tires, and added all the extra weight. Although, I will say even now pushing 100 isn't that bad...

Why do manufacturers make speedometers that go insanely high? The LC I believe goes to 160mph! I'd rather it just go to 120 and have higher resolution in the speed reading.

Did you read my comment above? Why would they make a speedometer that only goes to 120mph when the LC200 has an electronically-limited top speed of 135mph? That would be silly.

I believe the LC could easily go above 135 if chipped to remove the governor (and with the proper tires, lowered suspension, etc. for safety). I know in other countries where they really use these vehicles, they push them to these limits daily.

I would agree, however, that some cars have way too high a speedometer. A minivan doesn't go any faster just because it has a 200mph speedometer.

It's would certain suck to find out at 120 that something was wrong. Like a tire blows out. That ruin your day!
