Hey everyone. Just joined the forum and wanted to say hi and share my rig. I drive a 98 Lexus LX470. I bought it from my dad (a long time member on this forum, TLC Dan). Basically how that came to be was I had a very clean 4th Gen 4runner V8 that unfortunately got totaled in late 2023 when another driver spun out in the snow. After considering a few vehicle options, my dad and I ultimately agreed that I would buy his LX470 off of him, and then he moved up into a 2011 LX570. This happened early 2024, and I can definitely say I made the right decision by doing that. This vehicle has served our family very well, and is still in outstanding cosmetic and mechanical condition (even though it very recently passed the 250k milestone), and my dad is also very happy that his old rig gets to stick around with us.
My dad built this rig up very nicely, so I didn't have to change much about it. But I did start with a full exterior refresh/detail as it was definitely due for one. I'll post a thread (with pics) about that soon. Other than that, I added a speedometer recalibrater (which simply connects inline with the speed sensor near the back of the transmission) to account for the larger than stock tire size. Speaking of which I'm running 285/70R17's with rock warrior wheels (with roughly 1 inch wheel spacers as these are required to make the RW's with center caps clear the front hubs. I also replaced the old BFG KO2's with BFG Trail terrains. I considered KO3's, but I didn't want any more tire weight, and the 3's are even heavier than the 2's, and the TT's are much lighter and still have a semi aggressive look. I also installed a Schrader TPMS retrofit kit...it uses 4 OEM style sensors like you'd find in any modern car, and a display unit that I just mounted on top of the dash. I work as a tire shop supervisor at Costco, so I'm well versed in tires and TPMS sensors and was able to do all of that work myself. I had to get the windshield replaced...we found a great glass guy in our area who is familiar with the 100 series windshields and does very good/very low priced work, plus he was able to do some minor rust repair while the windshield was out. I added a couple TRD decals to the sides near the back corners below the 2 cabin pressure relief vents. And the biggest one of all...I had a Katzkin leather interior installed with seat heaters AND coolers, and at the same time replaced the aged and worn out driver's foam cushion with a brand new OEM seat cushion. Giving the seats an incredible look and the feel of a brand new Lexus seat.
This is just an overview, but I'll post more threads and pics about more of these specific mods later on.
The pics posted here are after I did the full exterior refresh and detail shortly after buying it (a little over a year ago now). So like I mentioned above, the only two exterior/visual things that are different now are...
1. The TRD decals I added to the sides
2. BFG trail terrains instead of KO2'S. (Same size 285/70R17). Also with white letters out
I've been very happy with this vehicle so far, and I plan to keep it for a long time! Thanks for viewing and I look forward to seeing and learning more from this forum
