What's up y'all?! My name is Ryan, brand new member and a proud new owner of a 04 LC100, got it at the local Musick Public Auction here in Boise, Idaho where I reside. Closed the auction for $12.5k with fees/taxes. It's got some rust on the frame that I'm looking to get repaired, as well as getting all suspension components/bolts/other hardware replaced. Also want to do a 2-2.5" lift and eventually a front bumper. We have quite a few shops here in the Boise area so I chose one, Boise 4x4, went in for an assessment and they just sent me over the quote. I was hoping some people could look through the quote and tell me what they think! I'll just say it was higher than I was expecting! I have also reached out to @SNLC for a quote today, have yet to hear back but I'm sure they are busy. Attaching the quote PDF, check it out, let me know your thoughts, and it's great to be here as an actual member after lurking the last few weeks!

that's a lot of rust repair if you're replacing crossmembers. honesty my advice would be to save yourself many future headaches and start your build with a truck that isn't heavily rusted. its a tough pill to swallow, but you cannot ever really stop rust, you can just slow it down. The prices for the parts seem fair, low actually. they may not be using OEM parts.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new truck. You will get better feedback if you provide some pictures and more info like mileage, general condition of the truck etc.

None of those prices seem outrageous (assuming that includes labor). Seeing all the crossmembers (rear as well?!) makes me think there's significant corrosion. OR the shop is casting a wide net. That's a big price but it's a lot of work and parts.

One thing I don't see is anything to do with baselining fluids, checking heater tees, hoses, radiator....all the basic low hanging fruit that if not addressed will leave you stranded.

If the truck really is rusty enough to justify all of that work then your best option is going to be to sell it and get one that isn't as rusty. Good luck getting half of what you paid for it though.

What are the parts for? Are they saying they need to be replaced? Are they rusted?
disc brake dust covers, transmission mount crossmember, etc.
They just want to replace everything and anything that has any corrosion on it I think. Most of the original parts have some rust, some not as bad. Brake dust covers are very corroded, transmission mount is getting crusty. Thanks for the reply.

At work but I'll try and get out to grab some underside photos.

Nooooooo 😫 not what I want to hear. But sometimes you need people to tell you what you don't want to hear...

Photos covering basically the entire rear underside where all the rust is concentrated. The hole in the last photo is on the body panel, not the frame

Besides the physical condition of the rear underside components/frame the truck is mechanically very sound. 170k miles. Here are some photos of the engine bay. The interior is mint, all leather, not tears in any seats, all electronics work.

That's more rust than I'd want to mess with.

I'll save you some money and sell you my rig for $25K and deliver it. Rust free Texas truck and completely baselined. Also has some sweet mods!

Why do you need a $4k suspension? I say baseline it and take care of the safety issues and just drive it till the wheels fall off.

I don't really need the 4k suspension or the bumper currently, just had him throw it on there out of curiosity. I am just getting into it, planning on doing some lighter overlanding/camping so I don't need anything crazy yet. I will likely forego the lift kit and front bumper for now, and focus on getting the underside in order

In one of the engine bay pics it looks like the rear ac has been capped. I know you said everything works but may want to double check that.

There are shops out there that this amount of rust is pretty standard! Found a shop in Minnesota that specializes in rust mitigation, Lugnuts Garage. Unfortunately Minnesota is nowhere near Idaho, but if this shop can do it and willing to guarantee their work it tells me this is very possible and actually pretty common in the salt belt. I am originally from the Upper Peninsula Michigan, so perhaps I can make a trip home and stop in Minneapolis on my way 😅

That may be true but I think you could have found a southern truck for about the same price without any rust. The problems you're going to face with fasteners, not just the frame, are going to be a royal pain for the whole time you own the vehicle. But hopefully I'm wrong and really I hope you end up loving the vehicle and restore it to all of it's glory. BTW, I'm originally from Mountain Home, ID!
