Cold windy and rainy in Patagonia. Winter time. Its amazing how fast the weather changed.

Moon through the telescope from last night. Had the sky open up just enough to capture a few shots.

The Hilux pays for itself. Hauling wood for the wood stove. Only way to heat the house for the winter

Weekend exploring..
The week brought rain down low and snow on the volcanos.
Rolled out on two wheels and four.
Wind swept trees near Frutillar Chile.

I also got to meet the local rescue helicopter pilot. That was cool.
Down here they said if it was good enough for AirWolf! Its good enough for us Airwolf rescue chopper!

Really amazing pictures. Looks like a movie set and makes me want to visit. That Hilux is my dream truck, and you get a Prado! too bad we dont have access to them at a reasonable price in the states....Anyways thanks again for the photos and keep posting!

Welcome to MUD! Nice trucks you have there. I will be a GX owner in a couple days after making a painful separation with my FJZ80. I can't tell how far south you are....are you still north of Puerto Montt? Chile is still on the bucket list and I hope to retire there someday. Wife is from Bolivia so close to the motherland Welcome and enjoy your rigs!

I live outside Puerto Varas, very near Puerto Montt. Between Ensenada and Puerto Varas. Its the pass through area for the start of the Carretera Autral road. Chile's Southern road. When you make it to Chile you for sure need travel the south, Patagonia is amazing.

Recent exploring out on the bikes and using the Prado as a chase truck for longer trips. With the new company started we are out and about a lot. www.motopatagonia.com
Been great so far and everyone who has come down to ride is blown away by how great the riding is and how Chile offers so much in the way of Culture, food and natural beauty.

The ole Hilux needs some love right now, shocks, tires etc. Hope to get that done at the start of next year. The Prado is good to go though and keeps us comfy on all the dirt roads out exploring.

No idea how I missed this thread. Beautiful pictures...how hard is it to get around Chilé (& Argentina for that matter) with limited Spanish? Any more pics of the hilux?

Wow, good question... When I moved down here I had no Spanish at all and managed. Now almost 2 years in I have good Spanish, not great but I speak it every day. I feel like its easier in Chile than in Argentina, Here in the far south both on the Chilean side and the Argentine side it is certainly good to have at least a base. I think more folks in the cities speak English than in the small towns or "campo" (country side)

That being said there are plenty English speaking natives here in the more touristy places. I need to clarify this though. When I say "touristy" I don't mean Disney World. I mean its generally places that have really accessible natural beauty, like lakes, rivers, volcano's, etc. Obliviously people gather in those areas to have that experience but it's nothing like say, YellowStone or Moab. Its still pretty low key.

As for the Hilux, yeah I can get some photos of the Barney Beast.. its the ugliest Hilux in town.. LOL I use the Hilux mostly for work and for going into the really crappy places when I don't want to mess up the 120 or leave it at a trail head in the middle of no where... Diesel is much cheaper here so we try to use it as much as possible during the week and travel with the 120. The Hilux is really stiff and rough riding. I love it but I'm a truck guy.

i went to santiago 2 years ago. you will need some spanish. but people there are really nice. well at least in Santiago. my friend lives in Argentina he said it still pretty bad down there. he finally migrated to europe

This is true, the Chileans seem to be much nicer to foreigners than in Argentina. Its weird, Argentina seems to be at odds with all the other countries down here. Chile and them have beef and the Brazilians hate Argentina.
